My wife shops there alot for exactly that reason. Also, when you go into a store, they are not "in your face", competing for commissions, and are generally helpful and can give you advice on things.

I bought while I was out of town, and they called in their alteration person on an off-day to alter it, and delivered it to the hotel. I didn't have to ask - I just told them I would bring it home unaltered, and get it done here. They insisted.

A little pricey, at times, but worth it if you're into it.

Whenever I go into Nordstrom's and tell the guy in the men's department I'm looking for 2X shirts or 20" collar (which are rare there), he pulls out damn near every single one for me and says "take a look and tell me what you like and don't like", then goes about taking care of his business and not hovering over me. He actually remembers what I dig the next time I shop there 2 months later!

They validate parking for you around here if you buy something too, which is real nice.

One of my cousins work there and during Christmas time; they take ANYTHING back. I mean; they will accept returns for store credit even if its not purchased from there. I was told people would return shirts from Wal-Mart. They really go above and beyond in the customer service department.

Exactly. Service above all is why we shop there!!

All those stories are quite believeable from our experience with Nordy.

My wife saw a Coach purse she wanted and couldn't believe the price on their mailer. We went to Nordstrom and apparently, Nordy had a misquoted (lower price) price on the mailer. The difference was about $100. The salesperson checked with her manager and came back told us that it was their mistake and sold us the purse for the misquoted price in the mailer and apologized for the inconvenience!!

I get correct measured dress shirt sizes there. For men's shirt size, there is a neck size and sleeve size. Nordy has shirt sizes that has the exact sleeve length (i.e. 35, not 34-35) It fits perfectly.

Anyhow, shoe selection is great and when you get those half-year sales, watch out!! The place is so packed it's as if they are giving the stuff away!

Another store I don't understand in South Coast Plaza is why the Luis Vuitton store is always so crowded!! I mean it is not like they are giving the stuff away! However, we have had good experiences with them as well!

Damn! You guys should receive some kickback for marketing! I haven't even seen a Nordy's, but if there's one in Boston, D.C., or NC (east coast NC) Im there. I go out of my way to experience good customer service - and variety. How are they on the latter? I hate going to a mall store and seeing two types of jeans and two types of shoes. I wear 40"+ jeans so its not always a pleasant shopping experience when I head out...

Nordstrom's is based here in Seattle, and they made their name with customer service around here many years ago...before they had stores all over the country. They are upscale/pricey and have always catered to people for whom top-notch service and "return with no questions asked" is more important than saving $20. And Bozo, to answer your question, they typically have a pretty good selection and variety.

Almost everyone who has lived in/around Seattle for very long can tell you an experiences they or someone they know has had at Nordy's that exemplifies the customer-first, above-and-beyond attitude. I'm actually looking at a Nordy's (in Bellevue Square) out my office window, and my wife and I shop there frequently. My wife is a shoe hound, and she'll spot a pair of shoes that isn't in stock in her size/color, and they'll have them shipped in from across the country for her to try on. One of my assistants has feet that are a full size different, and she has long purchased her shoes at Nordy's because they'll take one shoe in each size from two boxes and sell them to her as a pair.

I'm biased, but there's something about many of these Seattle companies (Nordy's, Starbucks, Costco...) that enables them to successfully take the friendly Seattle attitude (it really is, for the most part, a city full of nice people) and extend that to their stores in other parts of the country/world.

I always ruin my best shoes less than 6 months, so I get them at Norstromrack for half the price.

I stock up my cotton pants and belts from Norstrom every six-months. They have the good stuff.

I do all my shopping at Neiman Marcus now.. But that's only because I get (usually) about 50% off on everything I buy.
My Fiancee is a stylist for a new boutique they just opened called Cusp in Century City. Cusp is a women's store so I shop at the parent store, Neimans.
She used to be a Personal Shopper (At Your Service Manager) at Bloomingdales and that's where we got our nice discount, but she moved to a new store with more advancement opportunities.
She used to drop stuff off for clients all the time. She would even meet clients at other Bloomingdales stores if her store didn't have something they wanted.

In terms of returns, a lot of stores are constantly changing the rules. It also varies store to store depending on the manager. Some if not most have a policy of, "take returns on everything."
- Except of course if they think it was purchased at another store.
