I agree with everyone, HUGE rip off.

Your best bet is to actually ring around the dealers and ask them if they have any 20" wheels from people who have traded theirs in for the 21". I found out too late but Motorline BMW had 6 sets of the 20" 214 selling for $2500. This was about 18 months ago but I am sure there are always people ordering their new car and wanting 21" so the dealer would take in the brand new 20" as trade in.

Just ring around to their parts/service dept, you may get lucky.

+1.
I paid around 3k trading my 18 for 20, and added the flared wheel arches. The wider stance trasnfromed the look of the car, IMO, at the detriment of ride quality, of course. on a side note, I found a screw in the rear tyre today. Luckily I had replaced my RFT's with non RFT's, and hence able to have the tyre repaired. Otherwise I would be fuming if I had to replace the stupid RFT just because of a puncture.
Out of curiosity, how much discount are we talking about here for 3.0d, from the total on road price, 10k? 15k?, or more?

You do not have to always replace RFT just because of a puncture, it also depends how bad it is. one of my friend just fix his RFT.

Thanks again guys ..great suggestions

I suppose that if I trade up for rims I could also potentially dump the RFT setup and improve ride etc (based on what everyone says) .... do the dealerships frown when RFT are threatened to be dumped ? I mentioned this to my dealer as an option and he looked at me like I had stolen his first born ...

In my case, the 20 in rims came with tyres, and worth having them included as they would have cost much more if I had purchased the tyres separately. I am keeping the run flat so I can put them on when I want to sell my car.

I know the rft can be fixed, the trouble is most shops don't want to fix them.

More and more shops will fix run flats provided it's a simple tread penetration, the vehicle hasn't been driven too far with low/no air in the tyre, and there's no damage to the sidewall. There was a time when no one would repair RFs, but as the knowledge and experience with RFs increases, things are changing.

Basic Stereo upgrade in Aus

Guys ..any of you had mods to base factory stereo system ..also ..is the speaker on top centre of dash real? or is it just a placeholder for the top end hi-fi 16 etc option?

I'm thinking of getting amp and speakers upgraded including adding a sub ..the base factory system is a bit average ..don't want pimped out version ..just a general improvement ...

Add a 4 channel amp, replace the front door speakers and tweeters, replace the underseat woofers with earthquake sws, and you are done
. If you need even more bass, then add a subwoofer. The earthquake sws generate enough bass for most people, unless you want real doof doof.

Thanks so much X6X5

will a good quality car audio know all about this option? I live in Melbourne. And how much should I expect to pay for that type of setup? (estimate range) - just so that I know I'm not being ripped. thanks for any more info ..bloody fantastic.

4 inchmid range with tweeters such as focal 100vrs or 100 krs $400 to $500, a pair of earthquake sws $400 or so, amp $350 to $500 dependin on brand, installation may be $300. Do this first, and if you still want more bass you can always add a subwoofer later. The earthquake are 8 inch woofers and 2 of them do produce decent amount of bass, although they don't play that low. Not familiar with shops in Melbourne, but any decent specialized car audio shop should be able to do it. The install is pretty straight forward.
