My $0.02, depends upon what you want.

(The following are all in Aussie dollars.)

AFAIK, here are the big differences X5 40d vs 35d are :-
- base cost $113,300 (vs $105,490)
- more power,torque 225kw,600nm (vs 210kw,580nm)
- 8 speed steptronic auto gearbox (vs 6 speed)
- combined fuel consuption 7.5 ltr/100km (vs 8.3 ltr/100km)
- brake energy regeneration
- sports package now mandatory (hence 19" vs 18" wheels)
- adaptive drive not supported on 40d (*)
- adaptive steering not supported on 40d (*)
- TV function now optional (standard in 35d)
- some colour differences
- LCI shape differences, LEDs at back.
- top view camera (sides and rear camera, vs rear camera only on 35d) (**)
- 40d builds start april 2010 and should be avaialble june 2010

(*) BMW oz just says "not available as an option" for 40d diesels. I've seen other x5 40d forum discussions which suggest that the option is deleted for commercial reasons (poor uptake), and yet others which say that it's available in Europe (x5 40d LHD) but that it's currently not available due to problems converting it to RHD systems.

(**) top view was available on late build 2009 X5 35d's

If I understand correctly, BMW is "transplanting" the 740d engine into X5, and thus you have access to a number of 7 series options now available for X5 40d, such as
- lane departure warning function (+$1400)
- adaptive cruise control function (+$4700)
- side view function (+$900)

Not standard, but they are available as options, both individually, and as part of the (new to Oz) "Innovation Package" @ +$9900 comprising :
- auto tailgate
- comfort access
- sunroof
- bi-xenon headlights
- high beam assist
- heads up display
which supposedly the package saves you $2920 over the combined sum of individual options.

Does anyone have the comparison of the oz 2011 3.0d vs 2010 3.0d? Is the pricing and innovation package the same?

Sound different to what I heard.

Perhaps your dealer has added the "innovation package" by default (ie deletable option), and has upped the base price correspondingly. Does this match from the $$$ they quoted ?

yup, the quote I had with a dealer for sport 40d + inno pack + 7 seater + 20's + all other costs was around A$143,000, nearly non-negotiable atm.

MB GL is priced almost the same.

Fark that's getting up there. No wonder 35d stock is shifting fast.

well, same spec 35d is about 5k cheaper on paper, and about 10k cheaper after an hour negotiation, from the dealer I went to anyway.

plus the worry of bugs possibly from yr1 production,

will keep the no payment 30d for a while

Might be a wise move ...

you might find that the next gen X3, which is the same size as your E53 - may be a much better deal - esp if they slot the 40d and 35i powerplants etc in there ..

Is that their RRP plus on roads etc? Or with some discount? My fully spec 35d had an onroad of $150k with all that u mentioned above plus a few more like premium sound, sunblinds etc but that was before discounts.
