I hope the unit will utilize the GPS antenna of the car and directly takes advantage of the built in hardware for speed sensor, etc. The best part of the OE Nav is it uses the speakers and mutes the music. Replacing the older OE nav with something that has more modern features like this unit would be ideal. I don't mind spending the money if it brings things to 2010 specs. I would love to also use the built in DVD of the nav for watching movies. Ideally, hard drive based Nav is best b/c its faster and allows you to use the DVD drive to watch DVDs. I would love to be able to control the movie my daughter is watching from the front seat.
Andy, keep us posted on this HU. It looks promising. I would definitely go in on it as a GB if the price was really good. |
It looks like a replacement for a Chrysler. Check out the mounting bracket tabs. They look an awful like Chrysler to me. I don't think it would be compatible with BMW's...but I could be wrong.

After a quick google search I found a site that sells that navigation:
Aftermarket navigation for BMW,Navigation for BMW 5 series,Navigation for BMW X3,X5 But again, it is not a real picture.... :/ UPDATE: after trying to contact them, they basically state that these pictures are NOT the E53s FIT but they are the SAME navigation system: http://www.dvdgpsnavigation.com/faq_...d=72&fcPath=22 |

great job guys! keep us updated. I think there should a be a huge amount of interest here on the forums for these units. Its a great way to update our cars to 2010 specs.

That looks like a really nice unit, on paper at least. And all for the cost of a map update disc!
I bought an all in one thing off ebay for my last car that also seemed great from the description, but in reality it left a lot to be desired. The apps were not very well integrated and most worked poorly. The nav unit muted the radio for about half a second before the instruction, then the same delay after. I love the way the BMW lady just tells me over the music. If this turns out to be a true plug and play replacement for the BMW nav/computer system, and it functions more like an AVIC than a dodgy chinese unit, I'm in! |
Due to lack of availability of these units for our cars something like this will definitely keep us interested, including myself. If product becomes what it promises to be a "group buy" could be possible? (Let them know folks)
