Other way around - bottom one (currently) functions as tail AND brake - top one is currently an ALWAYS ON brake light. After changing bulb it will be a tail only.

5w BA15S is available at any automotive store... like NAPA...

True, but wouldn't you be losing your brake force/rear fog setup?

Yep - could do. Surprised you don't have a code already.... but I suppose each circuit has a lamp. I don't think the lower wattage will throw a code - it's suppose to be a lower wattage! ;)

Car of that build date likely doesn't have either force dependant brake lighting or fogs....

I was just wondering how in depth the LCM test was as I thought it checked the rear fogs and BFD which are the full wattage lights.

Ok was thinking it was available then and part of many "package" options.

Thanks Wpoll

I'm not sure but I'm thinking that the LCM will be BETTER off with the lower wattage bulb - it's currently driving a 21w filament where it is designed for a 5w filament in that location. :dunno:

I was curious about how in my 01s only one lamp is wired for both elements but BOTH lamps are spec dual filament.

When I refurbished wife’s tail lights I figured since its a design flaw better preemptive fix mine considering my car was like 20,000 miles farther along.

I was surprised to see my lamp assembly wasn’t even showing any sign of starting to fail and then I noticed one more current path so that both lamps had connection to both filaments.

However there was no pin on the connector for by car: made kit even more bizarre until I saw the production date stamp of 2009!

I didn’t like the idea of the no connection to the 21w filament, so I added a jumper and now I have 88w of brake it's nice and bright!
