Installed the LED tails on my lil bro's E53. Has a few more days in the shop installing a bunch of unnecessary crap. Its coming out like expected so far :)

So I did not want to pay$1000 for a kit on ebay to update my Imola Red to the red trim interior. I did some research on vinyl and got it in last week.

I have only done two pieces and will re-do the first piece as the second came out a lot better. Looks pretty good even up close and for $14.99 worth of vinyl it is worth it.

I will update pics when the rest is completed.

That looks pretty good for gloss that can be removed. I might be interested in doing this in black, I Want piano black interior but i dont want to paint it if i end up not wanting it.

I am curious how much of a pan it would be to wrap the console though. A lot of edges that would show pretty bad on a gloss vinyl. Enough of a headache to make me think about living with my dark wood...

I have watched quite a few videos on YouTube to see how it is done and when you heat it up it will mold around just about anything. It will stretch and you would not have any issues as far as I can tell.

I will post my efforts here soon. Remodeling a home so will be a few days.

If you don't mind a matte finish, you could spray it with PlastiDip black; that stuff goes on as a rubbery coating that sticks pretty well but will peel off easily if you don't like the look. I used it on the exterior trim on my e28 when I painted it three years ago, and it's held up very well, even when parked outside year-round.

smwmustang, that looks really great. And yeah I don't blame you for not getting that ridiculously priced OEM kit. Once you dominate using vinyl go ahead and do the lower trim of your steering wheel :)

xsx450 standard vinyl is really easy to work with. Just have a heat gun handy and you'll be able to mold the edges very easily. Make sure your center console has no flaws, they will show up right away. You have a blacked out X5, the piano black would look so nice on your ride. I am going to have my brother's trim painted rather than vinyled because he has cracks on 2 different wood pieces. Not only do we both hate the wood but there is damage. I have had trim painted on a few other cars and I loved the way it came out. I also had 3M silver carbon film and 3M brushed aluminum film and it was not too hard to manipulate. Since it has texture and thicker it goes over flaws nicely and hides them.

So should i try to wrap it gloss black vinyl or get it sprayed piano black? Maybe even sapphire to match the outside...

About how much should a shop charge to paint the pieces if you bring them to them out of the truck?

Would love to do this mod, just wondering how tough it would be to wrap the console pieces. I like the wood, but don't love it, would much rather do a Titan Silver trim or Piano Black.

Then theres also the fact that I would need to replace my shifter because thats gotta be tough to do.

I don't think it's that hard. Except for the center trim which is just involved to remove. Most people use di-noc wrap. I've never seen one done in person, but it looks great in picture. I plan on doing mine this summer. I've got to yank the dash to do the blower.
