It doesn’t look quite so bad if you squidge it all together on to one table top :

Phil - that is a superb photo!

I did not do it this way. I removed the towers and the F-clutch from the housing but then did the disassembly and re-assembly unit by unit. My wife saw me take out the towers and gave me a hand with the valve blocks and the A/B clutch pistons when I needed three (or four) hands. So she appreciates the complexity!!

I left the picture of RDM's parts open on the computer screen in the kitchen this morning and when she walked through and saw it, she was quite amused by the display of courage taking all apart at once!

Mine is attached to the motor again with 6 bolts but that was the last I had time for on Friday morning. I am traveling until the 25th so it will be a while before I can get the whole thing completed and running. With luck on the 27th I'll be ready to fill it with ATF as I also need to put the intake back and reassemble the fuel rail to the intake, etc..

Cttly in the big apple, then Fla. for a week of vacation and then to Canada for work....! RDM, I'll keep monitoring your progress! Looks like you'll be done before me!

RDM08 06-12-2011 01:27 PM

Phil-:iagree: you're right, but remember it's my first time doing a tranny, i was intimidated at first...

TriX5- vacation? what's that? LUCKY YOU!!

nah..don't think i will finish first(are we racing who finish first? lol)still dealing with the spring in cylinder D(cant find a PVC or something), got the reman TC($185.00) back and the rebuild kits for the tranny($434.31) and valve body($155.70) filter($42.79) and ZF fluid($170.00). Going to start with the valve body while i'm still waiting for the axial bearing and the torx screws, hopefully i'll get right and will post pics later. travel safe!!

thanks!
Rodel

Rodel,

Seems to me that the last thing you need when you’re struggling with the clutch springs is some smug git telling you how easy it all is when you have the right tools.........

Phil - found a tranny shop that's gonna do it for free! yeaaahhh!!

started the valve body assembly..

here goes..

TriX5 06-12-2011 09:12 PM

Wow, I am imprssed they were willing to do it for you. The PVC trick goes only so far and I had to delve deep in the box of tricks to get all the pistons out.

Phil - nice set of tools. I have to find something like that before I need to do the 6 speed on my '06..... It runs fine but I know it will come up one day.

Good luck on the re-build! I have my computer with me and will be following progress :-)

UHG, just looking at this thread makes me want to sell it while it still runs. LOL.

Can't though, love it too much. When it fails I'll curse it.

Good job on the service!
