Got myself 4 new tyres today, so goodby old RFT tyres, Ii choos the Bridgestone Turanza 6XL 275 front and 315 rear. And the are non RFT.

Will make an appointment, to get the car allignd, the rear tyres are work on the inside.

The Tyre Guy was not happy, they want to take the wheels of on an 4 kolom bridge, he had no idee of the weight of the wheels I guess.

Before you chew up your new tires check for ball joint wear. It's far more common than alignment to chew up the tires. The rear tires wear on the inside from braking forces sending the tires to toe out and the tires curl under on the inside edges.

You can have perfect alignment and chew a tire to the steel belts in a couple weeks from this.

Ps there are about 6 ball joints each corner not just taking about the main one. Most rear inner tire wear on BMW from the ball joint on the outside of the rear control arm. Mine moved over a mm from hand forces when i replaced them. That's enough to absolutely demolish the tires in weeks.

It has a bit of an oil leak from the turbo oil lines, and needs a good detail, but it has had lots of recent maintenance: a brand new DPF ($6k), DEF injector and mixer, glow plugs and glow plug controller, EGR cooler (not sure which one yet) and a new thermostat. Needs to be caught up on some PM work though. Looking forward to spending some time over on this side of the forum.

Very nice. I keep my eyes open for a nice E70 diesel as well. I miss ours. Much more so than the F15 diesel even though that one was better in every way except handling.

Almost got stuck coming home from literally the first trip in our new 2012 35d. 18 hours after purchase and it threw a code for EGR valve control and went into limp mode (which, holy crap! Hardly made it home).



Codes were 40E9 EGR position control, 4B81 EGR flow rate deviation, and 4CF9 EGR valve plausibility.


I reset the codes and they came back immediately. Then I used my Foxwell to exercise the HP EGR valve (that was the only one that there was an option for - not sure if there is even a LP EGR valve or not) and reset codes again and they didn't come back, even after a test drive. The code didn't specify whether it was the HP or LP EGR cooler valve.

The PO had the HP EGR cooler replaced about 2 years ago. I can't even find the valve on RealOEM though. Is the valve integrated into the cooler or is it a separate device?

Looks like I dodged the first bullet. But maybe need to get an EGR valve on order.

I never had any EGR problems with ours, other than a cracked EGR cooler. I don't think there is a secondary EGR valve on the E70. :dunno:

Did have a lot of problems with our F15 EGR... but that's another story.

Good to know. RealOEM's parts diagrams as well as the online stores' databases don't have a category for EGR, so it's proving to be difficult to find out how the system is designed. But the one EGR valve that I can find is $511 from FCP so it looks like I will see if I can get by without it. This is the one that people replace the spring on, so maybe that is the ticket. Still learning.

There are 2 EGR coolers... and the diagram does show 2 EGR valves after all. :dunno:

Put the 20" stock summer tires.

Felt like it was slipping shifting into second after initial test drive. Drove it a second time after a few hours parked and shudder/vibration was gone. I first thought it was the transmission slipping/struggling to shift with the load of the 20's. Figure it was the transfer case calibrating.

I had narrow 235 18" snows on and it shifted normally.
