What have you done to your E70 today?

Shop vac truck works phenomenally well. I would use it even who changing the valve just to control that first splurt of oil that usually goes all over your fingers or socket/wrench.

Zero oil comes out while vacuum is running.

I used my cordless Milwaukee Packout. The small nozzle fits perfectly into a roll of electrical tape and no it doesn't suck oil into the vacuum. The tape makes a flat seal that fits over the oil fill port.

I had a buddy babysit the tape/nozzle in case the vacuum drop when taking out the plug would affect the ability of the vacuum alone to hold the fitting together. On YouTube videos I've seen people use duct tape to hold the hose.

I've used the trick a few times. To install the quick change valves on mine and wife's cars but also when pulling the oil filter cap off it usually spills oil and when I did the OFHG job.

The drain plug has a stainless cap with an o-ring that is a backup to the Schrader valve inside.

It does drain slower since of course the valve takes up space in the normally wide open drain hole but bonus never risking cross threading the drain plug hole is fantastic plus.

Headlight bulb replacement
 

Changed both D1s xenon headlight bulbs due to the driver side bulb dying on me.

Phillips D1s Oem replacements were exact match of color and Brightness It had when I first bought this e70.

Smart man to do both! I see so often people change one! I was glad one of mine failed shortly after purchase sou could have like new from the start

Yeah, I'm going on eight years with some Philips 85415XV C1 Xtreme Vision bulbs and I'm thinking of replacing them after the hell it took installing those.

Changed the oil thermostat gasket on my 2008 4.8i
About 4.5 hours and sore ribs later, my X5 doesn't look like a Keurig making coffee anymore.

Brought home some kitchen cabinets and a glass door shower.

Shortly before that I put the corner back together that was "disassembled unscheduled rapidly" (thanks to a deer).

Same day I also put In a temporary belt tensioner to get me home from five hours away. Proper INA OE model now arrived and will be installed soon.

What have you done to your E70 today?
 

So while installing the tensioner mentioned, I managed to poke a hole in my radiator!

Quick on my reaction I had a pick tool right near me I poked it into the tiny tiny hole and made it big enough to accept a tiny stainless screw that held in the coolant with no pressure.

Then cleaned the area and sanded the aluminium with a scotch bright pad then with some brake kleen.

It was 34° out (f) so the bk want r evaporating fast so I lit the residue on fire to consume it and also warm the patch area.

JB Kwik to the rescue.

The cold was greatly slowing the cure time but after about an hour I drove maybe 40 minutes and it held.

It's been holding a couple weeks and 12-15 hours of driving it seems to be permanent!

$380 for a new radiator or $0 since I already had the JB Kwik on hand.

I did a similar repair on an SUV with a rear evaporator; the high and low pressure lines are about ten feet long and wound through the underside of the car would be an entire day job to replace not to mention the price!

Anyhow it of course was the high pressure side with the hole but JB weld is spec at 4000+ psi and I needed to hold back 260. Worked and had lasted 5-6 years so far.

Fan was running full speed and had code P2E82.

Used an app called “car scanner” that connected to the obd reader. Replaced the thermostat and some hoses while I was there. Get all the tools to make it easier if your x5 has adaptive suspension. The sway bar placement makes the space very tight.

Also threw on the 18” winters.

Had my temporary speed plug properly patched.

Always amazed to see an unmounted rim they are not small.
