Pretty easy really. YouTube BMW E70 X5 - Engine Partition Replacement for familiarization 15 minute video. I took the least expensive path and got a Chinese made knock off set off eBay... less than $60. Took a couple weeks for shipping though

Paddle shifter retrofit

I successfully completed retrofitting a heated Sports steering wheel with paddle shifters to my 2012 LCI X5 without the factory Sports Package.

Based on my research into this retrofit, I was concerned that it wouldn't work because I didn't have the Sports Package. I had previously confirmed that the wiring was in place (5VDC between pins 4 and 6 of connector x01003 in the steering wheel).

Basically, I just swapped steering wheels, added $2XA to the VO, and went out for a test drive. The paddles worked exactly as I had hoped.

I'm pretty sure the steering wheel is BMW part 32306797911. I paid $225 plus shipping from eBay, and $38 for a knock-off airbag cover. I'll replace it with an OE airbag cover as soon as I can.

justing now but got the work done before the polar vortex hit us in Northeast:

- ATM FMIC
- Transmission full service (new pan & mectranonic sleeve)
ZF6 fluid (FCPEuro kit)
- Lower Rad hoses replaced Hose #9,#6 Realoem
- Matt Withbread Damper Kit (complete kitpulley and bolts )

Runs like a charm to go with Rod's Sutphin TCU stage 3 tune.

just ordered euro light switch.

Battery is only two years old, installed at a dealer because I didn't have the registration software stuff and car was fairly new to us. I guess it could be faulty, but alternator could be on it's way, or there's some power draw somewhere. Wife informed me she's been getting high battery drain warnings while sitting in the car on the phone (engine not running).

Fortunately it's supposed to get back up into the 40s this weekend. It's been below zero for like two days straight.

Had to jump it again, but zero issues running the last two days. Still need to recalibrate the seat, but otherwise no warnings. I drove around watching voltage using an OBD2 adapter (also ordered a cigarette lighter voltmeter) and things looked normal to me. Still possible there's a battery drain but seems like now that it's warmed up car is happy for now.

if i can get color matched bumpers done for my pre-lci for those prices, I have it done this week. that would probably be around 2K total in the US.

As far as what I did, I drove it through heavy rain and puddles on the highway with the new 235/60/18 blizzak dm-v2 and transformed the car to a winter warrior lol

although, there was some steam coming from the front kidney grilles as I was parking it. Next night found some coolant splash residue that I thought was fixed after replacing the expansion tank. I hope it didn't fail after 2 months.

I had added a few ounces of distilled water to get the level between min and max.

Connect DVR red plus wire to one of the ventilator plugs... now my DVR starts when I open door! Goes to sleep together with units. Good to not forget every time after driving to switch it off and see in the morning increased battery discharge :Dhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c34754f045.jpg

I also just purchased a heated sport wheel for my 2012 LCI X5. What exactly does this mean..." added $2XA to the VO"? Sorry, I'm a little green to the BMW scene, well before my recent X5d purchase I haven't owned a BMW in at least 15 years and I'm trying to catch up on what I've been missing out on. Thanks!

2XA is the option code for Sport steering wheel with paddle shifters. The dollar sign is the prefix indicating a single option. I used NCS Expert (a coding tool) to add this option to the Vehicle Order (VO) stored in the CAS and FRM modules in my car.

I'm pretty new to coding, but from what I have learned since, it is not necessary to do this. It's only necessary to add an option to the VO if there is additional coding required to support the feature. For example, when I retrofitted the heated steering wheel initially, I added option 248 to the VO so that I could enable the heated steering wheel (function LHZ) in the IHKA module. This was necessary because I ran the control wire to the climate control rather than simply grounding it.

There are separate threads here and on other BMW sites that will get you started with coding.

Yea! Comfort Seat Swap!

I’ve now fixed the only thing I didn’t like about this X35D. Totally plug & play!
