I was connected to the wifi in the house.

The gps antenna has a very long cord. Im not sure how long as I put the antenna on the bar that runs thru the inside of the dash so I only used 1 foot of cord

If I didn't want to fight running the cord thru the entire length to get to the back I would of just bought an extension cable and plugged into the factory gps antenna. I may end up doing that in the long run since its there and all. Just to lazy to do it right now.

Does the gps work good with the antenna attached where it is?

Other than the connections shown here

IBUS Interface for BMW cars

Was there anything "installed" to the Android system or an app as described here:

IBUS Interface Driver Installation for Windows XP

This detail is way beyond my tech capability

https://www.silabs.com/documents/pub...otes/AN809.pdf

Thanks for any additional details that can be provided.

PS: I run an Eonon GA6166 Android Head unit

It works PERFECTLY. I was able to reset my mpg and all.

It automatically programmed the date and time on its own.

Everything flipped over to English readouts. So its mph, miles, mpg etc.

It still says "liters" on fuel in the tank but its actually showing gallons. Also the mpg shows l/100 or whatever but the readout is showing mpg.

Very nice software and again worked perfectly. There is now no reason what so ever to keep the antique factory nav. It is officially obsolete by all standards.

An android stereo can do anything the factory radio could do and a ton more with this software and the ibus adapter.
Awesome! Can't wait for your write up. I'm going to do this with mine.

Yep. The only issue is if there are trees above etc it will show some satellites dropping out. Still works even then. I'm more worried about me messing with something in the dash at a later date and pulling the gps antenna off that bar than anything else really. It works where its at now. But I will probably take advantage of the built in gps antenna in the rear eventually.

Mike
I cant vouch for all headunits just the seicane I'm running but it was truly plug and play. I plugged it into one of the radio's usb ports and it instantly recognized it and it worked. I didn't have to install any software for the interface itself.

The app installation is detailed a page or two earlier step by step.

I will clean it all up and add it to my website tonight hopefully. Just woke up so will be a little later today at least.

My radio is running android 7.1. I need to try it out on an older version of android to make sure what all it works with. Others have it too so maybe they can chime in with their android versions.

Bcredliner, I've noted you've been assessing options for head-unit upgrade for quite sometime and your requirements were spot on in my opinion. I'd be curious to hear of your feedback. I'm actually fed up with my Dynavin N6 and seriously considering a replacement and count my losses.

Thanks!
