Jose, how is your VM DIS v55 running compared to v43, speed wise and stability wise?

Well. I'm not surprised nor I'm upset. It's just software thing. There is already instructions around internet on how to build VMWare which is the same as how you go about installing software on HDD.
GT1 heads at this price point just got out, so we will see software "improvements" pretty soon. From what I understand it's all not that hard if you know linux a little. I don't, but I'm software developer, I can figure out how to install something ![]() Afterall my cars 2003 and 1997, all I need is already there and anything will be fine with me. At some point we will get "ultimate" software package for our yellow heads. I wonder what those other connectors on head? Is it for oscilloscope and multimiter? I wonder if those "live" ? |

Jose, Steve - the SSS replacement DVD's are on its way to me.
Katit, did you try installing SSS? The newer GT1 heads have the green LED at the back working, not sure about the RS232(serial port) or the other 2 connectors. Also not sure these were built to work wireless. But I'm guessing not enabled. I found that v55 runs faster on my VAIO. I will check again when my v43 HDD gets here.

SCORE! Thank you!!! Thanks guys for all your hard work. I hope to have some time to play with this soon. Still on my plate is the VM Physical-to-Virtual conversion. I have what I need, just need to make sure I can keep things running on RunLevel2. Dual boot is ok, but running a VM w/o having to reboot is where it is at(for me) This would allow you to use any laptop and not need to get fancy with configuration. Power up the VM, do what you need, Power it off... done

Yohotech OPS package information
Contacted Yohotech about the OPS package. Apparently its the exact same software - DIS v55 and SSS v32. Available on DVDs or HDD pre-installed.
Price is approx. $700. The hardware includes: - OPS head (orange head) - OPS OBDII cable - OPS LAN cable - MOST cable However, Jackey from Yohotech informed me that the clone OPS head is NOT as stable for programming as the DK (yellow head). So, for those thinking about using OPS for other BMWs you should think about it some more. |

DIS v44 and under (I have v43) can do both diagnosing and programming using the DK (yellow head). DIS v45 and higher (like DIS v55 on the DVDs we also have) can ONLY diagnose - no programming capability at all. It still uses the DK head to do this. Thats why SSS is always included with systems DIS v45 and higher, to do the programming portion. SSS can ONLY program - no diagnosing capability at all. SSS usually uses the OPS (orange head). I'm waiting on getting a copy of the good files from Riaz. Yohotech is shipping it to him now. Also, I thought I read somewhere that SSS can NOT do any of the Car/Key Memory settings. However, if not, then where? Now, according to weasel, there are only two BMW models that can be programmed with SSS but using the DK NOT the OPS. One is the E53 and the other I don't know. So, seems to me if you want to program for later model BMWs then you need to use OPS - which has been verified to be not as stable as the DK for programming. What that exactly means or how you can quantify that - I don't know. BTW .. I noticed a date on my DIS v43 and it said 9/2005. So, cautiously I'm going to assume that is the cutoff date for models to be "safely" supported by DIS v43. Keep in mind this is my understanding and I could be off on some of this. I certainly hope I'm not too far off. |

Will have to disappoint him and tell him to hold on. There is a place that has v44 install disks but the price is $240. If I can get a copy and then install it into v55 would be great.
