So in your case it wasn't broken gears? I too was thinking of buying the eBay gear set. Mine is floppy and clicks when trying to fold/unfold. It works with a little assistance.

I took mine apart to see what the problem was... mine has a crack in the metal cylinder that the motor and gears sit in. I need to order a replacement ebay mirror... not sure any of the ebay kits come with a new metal cylinder.

My passenger side mirror is looks and moves in with door closings. Not with wind, but probably just a matter of time before it gets loose enough to do that too.

side folding mirror fixed with pics

I purchased the gear set and the motor housing set on eBay. My metal motor housing anti rotation pin was broken and the gears were bent. The only part o can't find is the micro switch that senses the mirror folding.

I didn't try to fix my original mirror. I bought an ebay take off from a wrecking yard in CA.

It worked great but the switch was broken so I had to fix it... Switch is way easier to fool with than the tabs/gears in the motor.

BTW: when you buy the metal cylinder w/the tabs from Turkey, it is OBO. Ask for their gears to be thrown in -- others have done this (I wish I knew about it before I ordered the metal part (which I have and haven't used -- spare for the other mirror/just in case part).

My driver side mirror is floppy and clicks when trying to fold/unfold. I opened it up and found a broken part. Is this part replaceable?

^That's not a bad flop... lol you should have seen my passenger side mirror before jiggering it in a way that holds it firm. Fold doesn't work obviously... but it stops the 6 inch travel it had waving back and forth. Closing the door would instantly give me a great view of the door panel... lol. Wife got tired of pushing it back out after she got in.

I purchased the gear set and the motor housing set on eBay from Turkey. The floppiness was caused by the black motor housing being loose and the noises were coming from the gears (probably stripped or bent). Both sides are affected. I'll update this thread after I've done the repairs.

Sorry for not updating. I ended up buying new mirror assembly and swapped the complete motor assembly- very expensive. Wasted my money buying those motors and gears from Turkey - they never worked right in my case. You may consider checking the junk yard in your area for a used good mirror and just extract the complete motor assembly if it's still good.
