I'll post this info so that someone else doesn't run into the same issue.

I ordered part Rein BKN0100R from Rockauto because it matches the OEM part number 31607565315

It arrived and the diameter is so big.

Looks like the Rockauto system is not properly organized.

I looked again, and I see another part, Rein BKN0061R which is also listed as inner boot.

I suspect BKN0061R and BKN0100R are two different boots with different diameters.
Since BKN0100R did not work, I suspect I need BKN0061R.

However as per screenshot, the OEM numbers listed for both parts are the same, which it cannot be.

Furthermore, Rockauto does not list the diameters for the boots, so it's impossible to figure out which is correct...
I wanted to call Rockauto but they got rid of their customer service on the phone and everything is fully online now.

I attached a second image of what I believe are the correct dimensions for the inner cv axle boot

Contact Rockauto and tell them the boot that they sent you is too big. Tell them that the other boot is probably the correct size. Tell them that you will like to return the boot and order the correct boot. Rockauto has always done right by me when something doesn't fit. They will probably let you keep the old boot and send you a replacement.

Or, order from a parts supplier that specifically deals with your car!!! FCP, ECS, etc. And you honestly maybe saved just a couple of bucks over a model specific site sponsor.

Not to mention FCP has a lifetime warranty on all parts. Even brakes and oil.

Not always true. I ordered a wheel sensor from Turner Motorsport gave them my serial number and all the pertinent info about my car and they still sent me the wrong sensor. Had to get the X running so I went to Oreilley autopart got a speed sensor the same day and it fits and work perfectly on the X.

You lucky US people. Not so cheap for Canada. Free shipping doesn't exist...You guys get free shipping on orders over $50. Even if I ordered for $1000, shipping wouldn't be free!
OK let's see. GKN boots at fcpeuro. $30 for a pair and $45 shipping
Add taxes, I'm looking at $120-130 CAD for 2 boots
Rockauto for 2 Rein boots (not sure if it's better or worse than GKN) is $50 CAD.
Shipping is $15 CAD however it was less because at rockauto you can combine shipping and i wouldn't order the boots on their own.
2 new Cardone axles is $150 CAD for both lol
Now I only calculated the cost for 2 inner boots. There's also outer boots.
No wonder nobody buys those boots and people just buy complete assemblies, which also include the boots!
To take the axles apart, completely derust and paint them is no saving money for sure! But it's satisfying you restored/repaired something.

So, would any of you buy those boots from fcpeuro for $30 and pay x1.5 for shipping?

I've been ordering from rockauto for 10 years and this is one of a very few occasions that I had a problem. They clearly didn't properly number their product.
I emailed them so hopefully they'll figure it out. I can't believe they got rid of their phone customer service.

Just thought I would give everyone an update on the sticky CV boot, I was doing a brake fluid swap out at the weekend and as I was in there having a look at other components, I found my near side CV boot has split. Not bad, 2 1/2 years out of it and that's what I get on a regular boot and it's always the first side to go, due to drains and potholes in the UK.

Will put on another sticky boot, ordered one for £10, and might do an install video if anyone is interested.

If you get the same life from a split (sticky) boot as you do from a regular one, what's not to love?

2 1/2 years isn't very long, is it? Not sure what potholes and drains have to do with boot failure though - I always thought it was tight turns that did them in (based on the fact that while potholes and drains still affect the rear boots, the rear boots don't have to deal with steering forces/angles and therefore last for nearly forever).

That is actually a good point, I guess it's not due to the potholes or drains but did think that if the boot was subjected to constant stretch/compress forces then it would possibly wear out quicker.

Certainly can't complain after 2 and 1/2 years for 10 bucks. I also have a VW Transporter and just had to do the coil springs on the front and I wished that someone had gotten the hub off that thing more often as it was a pig of a job so there is a benefit to getting the CV axel out regularly but I don't have the time for it sadly.

Both boots from rockauto didn't work.
I think what happened is that my cv axle wasn't original, so the diameter was off.
Ended up going to Napa and getting boots that were as close as possible to the ones I had.
Finished rebuilding

Something to be aware of when changing your boots. CV axle may be aftermarket of different size.

I know I keep banging on about stickyboots, I did my first video on how to do do them. You guys already have the skills and knowhow how to do these, but this is a beginner's guide. Actually came from a discussion with my brother who has a M3 and very limited skills when it comes to cars and wanted to know how to do his in lockdown and I added to it.
