What ever happened to this guy who bought the cheapest X5 ever? Did he give up on fixing the vehicle?

Lost in cyber space.
They come in, post awhile, and disappear once the vehicle is fixed or sold. Dropping like flies lately..... Must be the fact that we are now at 10+ years old and most are over 100K. I am sitting at 58K and just drove her for the first time in 3 weeks on a Saturday run to put on an axle boot for another X5 4.6is owner. Couldn't get the clip to reset on the axle, other than that it would have been a 1.5 hr job including clean up. In December I will get to volunteer to do the other side inner and outer boots as they were cracking also. Fellow X5 owners, we have to keep them running....

^I'm starting to see the same 15 or so familiar faces - us "long haul" owners - I rolled a whopping 82k a month ago, just put in a new Bosch AGM battery and she is ready to rock for another 5 years

Like this guy tdog05 who considered me a douchebag because I told him that the bargain X that he brought and bragged about needs a new trans or a trans rebuild and that it was going to cost him more than what he paid for the X. He only posted that one thread and never hear from him again.

Seems some purchasers "shoot themselves in the foot" when they buy the lowest priced vehicle on the market.
I will gladly pay a fair price for a documented/maintained vehicle. Fewer woes in the ownership. As Oscar Wilde wrote over a century ago, "A cynic is a man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing".

![]() I must have got lucky with my purchase. The vehicle rocks in every way and I've yet to have a major issue. I think the worst was a valley pan gasket, but that repair was fun.... I think I paid too much..., but what the hell. |

By the basic questions asked there are many that come to the forum that don't have much to contribute. I give them credit for coming here for help rather than grabbing some coat hanger wire and duct tape to keep it going.
Frankly, I think some are driven away because we scare them with anecdotal experience that we present as if it happens to every X5 out there. I don't have a clue why anyone would spend time here if their intention is other than to help X5 owners but it seems that is the case all to frequently. Hi, welcome, that being said now it's time for me to scare the crap out of you for purchasing a used X5.
