It's actually attached to a "sticky pad". The pad and the mount's suction cup form a very good bond to our textured dash. If you want to windshield mount it, then you don't use the dash pad. It's a good system. Plus, it's a one-handed operation to take the phone in and out of the cradle. I highly recommend the iOttie mount.
