Question Chrome Exhaust Tips for a E70 3.0si ???

Has anyone changed the standard dull looking black exhaust tips of the 3.0si to the chrome tips ??? If yes, who has the best deals on the net on these puppies with a BMWCCA discount ?

Thanks,

Alex Bidarian

See attached photo of chrome exhaust tips as fitted to my 3.0dSE. These were supplied by BMW.

I myself are looking at changing the factory exhaust tips for the E70 3.0. Does anybody know if I can fit the large 4.8 E70 tips into the 3.0? I just love that look.

Appreciate the input.

Unhappy I checked with a couple of dealers. You cannot :-(

I guess you cannot put the factory OEM chrome tips on the 3.0si from the 4.8i. I am sure you can buy some aftermarket ones and put them on, but not the OEM ones from the 4.8i.

Good luck. I just ordered the same ones as the black X5 3.0 above from a New Jersey dealer for a $100 + shipping.

That sucks. I guess I have to look around for the aftermarket one's. If not I'll do the same chrome tips that you're getting.

Thanks.

I looked into the same thing...

The reason you can not get the E70 4.8 tips is because they are part of the muffler and for a set it will run you about $600 USD.

Here is the next best thing. You can purchase the E53 (X5) 4.6/4.8is tips...they are very similar to the E70 4.8 tips and are OEM...you can order them from the board sponcer Morristown BMW for $220 (set).

...Or if you want to spend even less, then just get the aftermarket ones like some of the people on this board already did from e-bay for $110.

through my research this is the best you can do...unless you find a totaled E70 4.8 at your local junk yard purchase the rear mufflers with the exhous and cut the tips off then have them welded....

That's correct. I prefer the square looking one. I'll probably go for the E53 4.6 OEM tips.

Thanks for the info.

BTW, Watrob's tips looks pretty good also.

Question Called BMW dealer, E53 4.6is/4.8is tips don't fit E70 3.0si tips !

I just called a couple of local BMW dealers and asked if the E53 4.6is/4.8is chrome tips fit the E70 3.0si muffler ends, and they said NO. It does NOT fit it. You would have to go an aftermarket chrome set to get a square chrome tip for the E70 3.0si.

Can you guys verify through your sources if this information is correct or not ???

Thanks.

Thumbs up Good news !!! The E70 4.8i chrome exhaust tips DO fit the 3.0si !

I just came from Crevier BMW in Santa Ana, California today at lunch. I went to their parts department and asked a specialist there if the tips of the 4.8i could fit into the 3.0si. After looking at both cars' exhaust tips and measuring the diameter (well, eyeballing is more like it), he said that the 4.8i chrome tips WOULD fit the 3.0si's. The only thing you have to do is to pop the extra plastic piece out of the rear bumper and they fit.

I hope I have not been given wrong info. So if I am wrong, please do not shoot the messenger !!!
