Very nice, I'll have to investigate the mag, as I am on S22 Ultra with a case. Great start for ideas, I had no idea there was such thing as the E70 specific mount in your first link. THANKS

Nothing can touch the factory fit look and you can hide the cord nicely.

What have you done to your E70 today?
So for fun today on the last hour of 4 hours of driving today, and after I shot my trip average mpg with 3-4 busts to triples passing on rural highways, I decided 325 miles into 375 mile trip I would see what I could do to bring my average up from the relatively dismal 22.8 (usually get 24+ highway).
I knew I waited to long to get up to 24 so I reset the trip odometer to see what the maximum I could pull off including driving though downtown Milwaukee on the last 50 miles. There were plenty of hills but I never got lower than 28 average and pulled off this: ![]() I was still a way to go but the average after driving through town was exactly 29.0. I usually get 21.5 on mostly highway mixed driving. 29/21.5=35% better! 5.50/1.35=4.07 means effectively turned $5.50 gas into $4.07 gas. I will definitely be exploring this a little more thoroughly. It was more difficult to pull off due to a fair number of long hills and construction. A few times I lost as much as 6-7 mph up hills but I would normally have been able to start at a higher speed to start with more kinetic energy before the KE > PE transfer going up the hills. On Wednesday I did a similar experiment for 20 miles and netted 27 mpg. (Typically shedding about 4mph from 76 > 72 up hills, and gaining them back on the way down). The faster I start the less I have to drop and the construction and traffic held me back and I still pulled off 29. When I've done the same in my 3.0 e53, the best I've achieved was 23.0. 29/23=1.26. That's pretty awesome. So I made ≈ 450 mi. trip with 53 distance to empty! Quite happy with that.

Nice. I'm happy to be driving the X5 regularly again. 550+ miles on 18 or so gallons is good to me. Compared to my truck; 350+ miles on ~20 gallons, unloaded. Both diesel, though.

What have you done to your E70 today?
So wife's 50i stalled on me after a short full throttle spurt then coming quickly to a stop.
It wouldn't restart, battery dropping to 8-9v when trying. So likely either a battery or starter issue. Had terrible luck trying to jump start; jump packs not supplying current or not charged, skinny jumper cable just getting warm. Voltage never coming up above 12 so I could get started So: roadside assistance and tow home to figure out later. But; how to get into neutral when car won't start? It wouldn't shift even with key on engine off. Fortunately I learned that BMW removed the in cabin neutral override. On my car I have a hole drilled through the transmission under belly pan with a note and an arrow; 5mm hex label. After a bunch of wriggling around on my back I found that without the hole you can use a ratchet with 5mm hex bit; ![]() You can get in from the side but you need a ratchet or offset screw driver with 5mm hex (or equivalent torx bit). Be alert! Even with parking brake on the car will lurch a bit when you get neutral engaged. I had somebody ready to yank me out from under the car while I was doing the deed and I blocked the rear tire as well. I broke down one block from a fire department and a handful of fighters helped push to the side of the road. Note: I almost got it started once after turning the flashers off. The drain from the hazards was keeping the battery from any voltage recovery and the only time it almost started was after the flashers were off for ten minutes or so. Don't know what caused the initial stall no error codes so wish me luck.

Replaced the vacuum pump o-rings (all 3 from DUDMD). Noticed that the CCV hose is cracked and seeping oil... so I ordered that from TuneMyEuro.com and am awaiting that. This damn truck is going to be new by the time I'm finally ready to get it on the market...

Did a little transmission service myself due to a leaking trans oil pan. Ended up replacing the oil pan + gasket, all mechatronic seals, solenoids, the actual mechatronic unit, and of course fresh ZF fluid. Normally one wouldn’t need to replace the mechatronic unit, but due to an error on my part, I had to purchase a used one and swap the computer board over. Despite the mechatronic issue, everything was still cheaper than what the dealer wanted. The X5 shifts perfect now.
Next up: program lci tail lamps and replace the actuator gear for the thigh support on my driver comfort seat.
