I'm planning to get the walnut blast kit from FCP this summer. I was going to do at the same time as VC but that became more important when I found the oil in the vacuum tank

Today i took some time to fix the OFG, and have a peak on the valves, to see of some wallnut blasting is a good plan.

The inlet manifold, was not a very difficult job, only getting al the connectors out, was i bit of a puzzel.
With the manifold out the removal of the OFH was easy, but the bolt on the front naar the waterhose, was tricky, there was no room for the wrench nut. I try it with a spanner size 8, it fits perfect, now it was fairly easy to continue.

The inlet and valves didn’t look very clean, have seen worse. ( Engine has 200.000 Km )
But will make an apointment for blasting. ( picture is a bit bad)
I noticed that the valves on cyl 1,2,5 and 6 had more dirt on them than cyl 3 and 4.

Also cleaned the front of the Engine again, and did a good check on all pulley’s checking for dirt and peases off belt in the grooves. I found the spanner still a bit wobbeling, after a clean of all pulley’s it’s staddy. I used a very bright tourchlight for checking, and a Sharp pen for cleaning each grove.

I hope that all leaks are over now.

Almost forgot, I also did a little stage 1 tuning and a Xhp tune, that would be beter for the gearbox. For the tune the car was about 4 hours on the dyno.

Now day is at his end now, next job paint scratches and stone damage repair.

For the lower bolt you are supposed to remove the coolant hose connector that is in the way:

Not sure why that's never mentioned in YouTube videos etc.

The full kit for walnut blasting is ≈350 at fcp euro. Any chance you are near southeast Wisconsin? I'm planning to Walnut blast in the next few months.

Nice job on the tune! Solid improvement!

What parts involved in the tune?

Thanks.

I was bolt nr3, I could get it out, without removing nr 4. That was ok, because I did ‘t have a seal for that. But it was a bit of a thing.

The tuning was only software, only at high RPM there was a bit of a dip, they tought, that could be the result of dirty valves and inlet.

So I will go back to them, to do the blasting, I cost about 300 euro’s.

And I live about 4000 air Miles from Wisconsin, in Europa Netherlands.

Finally got tired of terrible looking calipers so painted the front ones. Rear ones will get done some other day in the future. Not perfect or a 'pro' job but 1000 times better than before. I removed the caliper and bracket, but didn't remove detach the brake line, instead just carefully supported the caliper so I could turn it for getting at different angles.

These were so bad it took most of a Sunday to get all the grime and rust off of them even with using wheel wire brushes (stainless and nylon). Once I was done with that, I was almost tempted to leave them shinny metal and apply a protective coating they looked so nice.

Anyway, no before and after but if you can imagine the rear in the picture being much worse as the front actually had quite a bit of rust, that's the 'before'. The rears did as well in the past but I had previously tested out some various cleaning methods on them several months ago (while mounted). I had also removed the rear spring clips back then and cleaned them up. Eventually I will clean up the wheels and address the scratches/curb rash. Eventually.

Also, I had just got a steam cleaner so decided to do steam and brush the wheel well liners and wow what a difference, especially after being able to apply some Trim Serum Trim Restorer just to see if it was worth it.

Side note: During this process I discovered that you're not supposed to grease the caliper pins so fixed that and the braking is noticeably smoother. The guide pin boots are relatively new (replaced a couple of years ago).

If anybody cares I'll take some better pics.

I like the blue a lot. Looks great. More pics always good, would be interested to see the wheel liners and serum. NOT supposed to grease guide pins, news to me. Glad mine were working well at last check, I have not tried to on my e70.
