I now have another MAJOR problem.

Just burned a new OS update CD which loaded OK and the Nav rebooted and run perfectly. Then it rebooted again on its own. Now I'm left with a "NO CD or DVD in DRIVE ERROR message.
Sounds like the nav computer does not like the OS that you have loaded, (this happens), especially with custom splash screens.

I would put an OEM version of OS back through the mk4 and see if this fixes the problem, then look at what might have gone wrong, (splash pic to big (in kb) is often the cause).

However, this does not normally cause the "NO CD or DVD in DRIVE ERROR" message, normally you only get this with a worn laser.

Load and OEM version and see what happens.

I can eject the CD & DVD's without any problem, but the system is not reading anything.
Do you have a cd version of the map that you can try, this will normally work.

Please HELP !

Thanks in advance !

Hi ccfj1,

Took until very late last night to resolve the problem.

I have the maps on DVD and the OS update on CD.

Over the last few days, I have created about 6 "updates" to the navboot and installed all of them without any issues at all. ALL with the same Splash Screen.
Then last night, I changed a couple of colours on the Rom 2 & 3 maps ONLY.

Then I went to the car and updated as usual - everything went OK with the update. I removed the CD as instructed, and clicked OK to reboot the Nav.
After it rebooted, the splash showed OK, then it asked me to insert the Map DVD. I did, and the map showed OK. It was then that I clicked on the Nav Menu button and it froze. The freeze lasted about 10 seconds, then it rebootewd again.
This happened 3 times, so I removed the DVD, switched off, and set about reinstalling my original OS to restore it.
That is when it would not recognise ANY disc I put in it. OS or Maps.

I read around on the net and saw a recommendation to disconnect the battery terminal to reset the cars electrics. However, while I was searching the net for an answer, I had locked the car. By the time I returned to it (20 minutes +/-) I thought I'd give it one last try.

Thankfully, it read the disc and reverted me back to the original V32 OS.

A bit reluctant to try any more upgrades !

Thanks again for all your assistance mate

Cool Custom dark nav theme for MKIV DVD nav V32

I'm not sure if anyone wants this but I've spent some time updating my V32 navboot configuration file map colors scheme (night mode mainly) but I use it full time. It is a dark theme but very easy to read/see.

Basically the entire map background is black, water is blue, parks are green and the roads are all shades of orange, red and grey. I didn't change the OEM menu from the standard grey/brown and white text because I like it. It looks great.

You can download my custom navboot file here to replace the original in the V32 software using Ultra ISO. It works great.

I've also configured my car to have the British female voice--if anyone needs help with that PM me (you can't change that in the navboot file).

I've also updated the boot image to this...

The 3D sky image to this...

And the startup warning message to this (you should probably change this one to make it more personal)...

Instructions
1. Sit down
2. Strap In
3. Hold On
4. Enjoy the Ride

///Mitch

That looks like some good work mate, I'll grab that navboot and have a look, (I like the colour scheme of the map), is the menu system OEM or did you change any of them values.

Nice job mate

I left the menu system in tact (2nd/night theme) because I didn't think it needed a change. You can change it if you like, obviously! I liked the grey/brown with white text scheme.

Just remember to change the start-up warning message in the navboot unless you want yours to read like mine!!!

Hahaha, we (in the UK), dont have the accept screen anyway, so not a problem.

Hi guys,
just wanted a bit of advice please?

My nav constantly reboots on its own now.

I loaded my custom v32 about 2 months ago and this has only started happening over the last couple of weeks.

From experience, does anyone know if this is OS or hardware related?

thanks!

Hardware: it is a weak laser, causing data corruption when reading the map cd
