"Neuerung gibt keine wirklichen. Die 4-1/91 enthält nur Fehlerbereinigungen in der Telefonbuch verwaltung sowie Bugfixes für USA/Japan-Nutzer." Freetranslation gives: "Innovation doesn't give any real ones. The 4-1/91 contain only mistake-adjustments in the telephone book-administration as well as bugfixes for USA / Japan-user." |

V29 update without problems...just do it :)
Hello all
I downloaded the v29 as a RAR (archive) file from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PT4NNB58 Unzipped it using WinRar, and burned it on an ordinary CD media at 4x speed using ImgBurn. Remember to use the "Verify" option in ImgBurn to validate the contents of the burned CD media prior to attempting any upload in your car. Updated my MKIV system (fitted on an German E46, 2003, 330 convertible) without any problems. However like most others here I fail to see the difference from v28, but improvements may be hidden in algorithms... somebody will most certainly enlighten us all later on. Regards Jesper |

I found this on the v28 post and used it to load the v29.1, just replaced the v29.1 file where it said to use v28. I think Shoimin wrote this, Thanks it helped me out. It worked fine no problems at all. I went from v27 to v29.1 and loaded first try. Now if I can just update my dvd nav maps as I have the 2005.2. Thanks again to Shoimin and all the great info here at X5World.
Taken from Shoimin's POST: 09-19-2006 at 02:46 PM "1 - I used two programs: WinRAR from <http://www.rarsoft.com>www.rarsoft.com and ImgBurn from <http://www.imgburn.com>www.imgburn.com. Just install both with the default options. 2 - Download from the megaupload link from above by clicking it, entering the three digit/letter alphanumberic verification code in the space provided, and submit. Once done, wait about 45 seconds. Some ads will probably pop up, obscurring the download link, so just close any windows or floating ads by clicking the 'x'. Click download at the end of 45 seconds and save to disk. 3 - Right click the file that just downloaded, and select 'extract to bmw v28\' and wait a minute for the program to decompress the two files. 4 - Open ImgBurn, insert a CD into your burner (and wait while it spins up0, and under 'Source' click the icon for 'Browse for a file'. From there, point the file browser the location of v28.mds, which was performed in step 3. 5 - I burn max speed, but generally a slower speed results in a more stable burn, so I suggest burning at the minimum speed. Click the giant burn button and let it do its job. 6 - Take the finished cd to the car. I turn the key to the first position and let everything boot and stabilize. I then eject the Navigation Map, insert the cd, and sit and wait in the car. The process claims to take 6 minutes, but it feels far less than that. Once the process finishes, the screen will tell you to remove the cd, which you should and insert back the map disc. Give it a minute to reboot, and it should have finished."

For those preferring an ISO-Image: I remember MAC-users on former updates reported that renaming the bigger file to '*.iso' worked. If not you can use the shareware UltraISO to convert the imagefile.
Today I updated my MINI and accidentally burned the image on a DVD-R and even with highest burning-speed there occured no problems during the update (I was very tired yesterday...). morbus |

A visible change in the V29.1 - window size
It is currently being discussed what changes V29.1 really offer
I have found one visible change on my MKIV system (fitted on a E46, 330). The split screen was previously (using V28) divided 50%/50%. This has changed with V29.1 to 60/40. This is an improvement as the map is placed in the bigger 60% window and the directions in the 40% window. |

The split screen relation is 60/40 on my fathers MKIV with V24.1, and mine with V28.0, too.

I read the below somewhere. Surely that is a BIG new feature.
"For US vehicles, BMW finally introduced a "search by part of name" feature. We can finally look up a point of interest by name. This is great for finding a particular restaurant or hotel. In the past, the only option was to search for a type of location within a specified distance. Then, you were forced to scroll through all of the options until you found the right one." |
