Instructions are very similiar to what is listed here for the ILP: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...bluetooth.html

After connecting the battery back up, I took it for a spin and everything worked great. After I shut it off for 20 minutes (key out) the display wouldn't show up in the dash. I tried disconnecting the battery several times, but it seemed like I could only get it to work on the radio. After futzing around for several hours, I found if I pressed disc 6 and clicked the up arrow on the stearing wheel several times it would dispay core 1.4.00, when I selected disc 1 at this point everything worked.. Was this normal? Also, while going through several other modes on disc 6 it would show ? and *, but if I pressed disc 6 they would show up normal... Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

What are the DIP switches set at on the DICE module? Also - what generation/firmware are you using on the iPod side?

JohnD 08-12-2008 05:36 AM

Tom,

Vehicle: 2001 X5 with a production date of 10/2000 without Nav or DSP
Ipod: Third Generation Nano (4 Gig) with firmware 1.1.3
Ipod: First Generation Nano (1 Gig) with firmware 1.3.1 (tested the wifes)
Dice: Dice Silverline that was purchased from EAS last week (all switches up)

Installation:
1. Uplug battery
2. Routed cables
3. Connected dice
4. Connected battery
5. Connected IPOD

Everything works great until I shut the car off and remove the key. After that the display won't work until I reset the battery as inidicated in some of your other posts.

If I switch to FM, shut the radio off and then shut the car off everything works fine I have noticed that everytime I shut the car off without switching to FM and shutting the radio off that I display will go out, and I will need to reset from the battery. Is this normal behavior? is there anyway to control this from happening by setting the dip switches in a different position? The wife drives my x5 on a regular basis, and she is horrible about turning things off.

Thanks
JD

Haven't seen this behavior before - is this a trunk or radio interface kit?

JohnD 08-12-2008 07:16 PM

It is the trunk kit... I searched several other forums and saw something similar on e46 fanatics, but there wasn't any resolution.. I have been using it for 2 days now, and it works as expected as long as I switch to FM and shut the radio off prior to turning off the car. Also, the book that came with it says to select disk 6 track 3 to have it display on the OBD, but if I do that it doesn't work. I need to set it to core 1.4.00 to get it to display on the OBD. If I select track 6 disk 4 it shows on the radio. Could I possibly have a defective unit?

The CORE message means that text is being properly displayed on the head unit. Are there any behavioral differences between the text on your MID vs OBD?

JohnD 08-13-2008 05:30 AM

Tom,

I can only get the text to display on one or the other, but not both at the same time. Either way they appear to function the same way. So the only problem I am having is I need to switch to FM before shutting off the car to retain the settings, and the noise it makes when switching from IPOD to FM.

I read on one of the E46 boards that the older business class radios don't always send a kill signal to the ipod when te car is shut off, so you need to switch to FM first. I hope this isn't the case because my wife keeps forgetting to do this - happened again last night..

Thanks
JD

Only 8 characters on X3?

Hi Tom -

Just finished installation of my DICE on my '05 X3 with Nav and DSP. A couple of questions:

To set up text on the Nav screen I tried CD6 track 2. No display. Only with the "alternate" version, CD6 track 6, can I get text display, and in that case it's only 8 characters. Is there any way to get 15 characters on the X3 Nav screen?

Also, there's a lot of intermittent, high-pitched noise in the audio feed. This happens even when the engine is off. Is there a solution for this?

Thanks -

DJD

The noise can be traced to a bad ground in the system - try turning on/off the iPod's backlight to see if the noise changes in pitch.

We prefer the CD6/TR6 setting, otherwise, there's cCD6/TR2 if you want more characters.

Tom,

Any ideas on the problem I am having?

Thanks
