Hi Tom,

Based on all your excellent commentary here on X5World I purchased a DICE adapter for my '01 740il (w/ NAV and DSP). It arrived today - Monday - and I installed it this afternoon. Thanks for the quick shipping.

Sadly I've only had partial success, and I hope you can offer some advice. I can browse the iPod successfully, but no audio plays. I'm using a 5th Gen iPod (v 1.3 according to iTunes). I've also tried an iPhone with equally limited success.

I'm not sure if it matters, but the negative battery terminal was disconnected during the installation. Since then I've unplugged the DICE module from the vehicle cable and let it sit for 50 seconds (key out of ignition), which corrected a few initial problems with text but didn't resolve the audio thing.

Any ideas?

Did you get the DSP adapter along with your kit?

You're referring to the second DICE box with the composite audio and coax cables, correct?

I have that installed.

That's correct. Since you're not far from us in Long Beach - did you want to stop by so I can take a quick look?

That would be awesome. When should I come by?

Give me a call tomorrow morning so I can schedule you in - it shouldn't take long.

Hello again (Budget M3),
I tried to disconnect the Bluetooth, and the problem was still there with both interfaces (Dice/Icelink-Plus), my car's production date is 9-2003, I even tried an earlier model 4.6is production date 2-2003, and a 4.4i production date 6-2001 (without a bluetooth) and same problems after a while (i.e. 2-3 days)...
I used an early generation ipod nano (2gb), an ipod video (30gb) and most recently an ipod touch (80gb), the latter does not work properly at all...
BUT, on the lighter side both worked much better with X5's without navigation/TV screens production date 5-2001.... AND on an E46 330ci production date 3-2005 without navigation... So.... I guess there could be something in that.... but i don't have the energy anymore to troubleshoot, way too much of a hassle...
By the way, the RETROFIT KIT, AUXILIARY CONNECTION can be bought separately for cars 2002 and above and are relatively cheap (50-80$) and easy to install;
P/N 65120153502 for X5's with CD PLAYER AND RADIO BMW BUSINESS (C43)
or
P/N 65120153503for X5's with NAVIGATION SYSTEM, PROFESSIONAL, OR, TV FUNCTION, OR, ON-BOARD MONITOR WITH TV.
They even work with the Sony Walkman and even with my Mobile Phone Sony Ericsson W880...

Regards

Yanal

I spoke with adam at dice tech support today and he told me they are aware of text issues not resuming, and will swap out dice units with new software once the update is ready. I recall reading in this forum that they spoke to them in october or november last year and they told them the same thing.

My text problems happen after one or two cycles of using the car. Text stops scrolling and then disappears altogether. I unplug unit and reset software to option 3 and lose it again in a couple uses of the car.

Thanks for the updated info, Yanal. Very helpful! IIRC, the aux kits were only for 2003 and up on the 3-series. Is it different for the X5/E53? More specifically, my 4.6is is a 2002 model year, but 12/2001 production date. If this kit will work with my DSP, non-Nav radio then I am going to look into it first. Where does the kit plug in? at the head unit or in the trunk by the CD changer?

EDIT: Just checked those part numbers on realoem. They list that part for the euro E53's (including euro 4.6is) and several US model 5 and 6 series, but not the US E53 X5's. Now I am really confused...:dunno:

AUX is not compatible with a 2002 model, you need the DICE kit.
