I'd argue more charity goes to the poor via faith based organizations than the ACLU and other Liberal causes. |

No, I am not in favor of wealth redistribution. I think this trend of taking the taxes paid by the majority of Americans and giving it to large corporations instead of using it to provide services for the people needs to stop. I think this trend of the government passing laws to hurt workers' ability to unionize, and instead siding with industry needs to stop.
These policies are causing the rich to get richer and the poor and middle class to get poorer as taxes increase and wages decline. An increasingly smaller percentage of the people control and increasingly larger percentage of the wealth. This wealth redistribution that our government has been doing for decades needs to stop or else the majority of the people will soon all be poor and have nothing. (Ya know, you don't have to actually take money from one group and give it to another to be supporting wealth redistribution. All you have to do is have policies which favor one group over another, and over time the wealth redistribution will happen on its own. Most wealth redistribution in this country has happened in that sort of way. )

Unfortunately, everything I have read and heard leads me to believe that Obama wants to redistribute the wealth from hard working people to help fund welfare and unemployment. I am not for that as I think these programs are manipulated every single day and we don't need to pump more money into either of them.
By the way Krimson, please tell me how if Obama is elected that my health care cost will come down. Also, for everyone who says they do not believe in a "me first" society then please donate all of your money to people who need it more than you. That is such an easy thing to say, but a much harder way to actually live. If you really thought like that you would never be driving an X5 or be on a BMW forum in the first place. You would never have enough money left to even dream about it. Last edited by FSETH; 10-17-2008 at 10:15 PM. |

I say don't lose sleep over this. Whoever becomes the Prezi cannot possibly wave the magic wand and make all of this mess go away. Either this is going to get messier or take very long to fix. Wish us luck as both the candidates seem confused, one perhaps a bit more than the other.

If a large number of people join together and shop for heath care as a group, they will obtain a better price from the health insurance companies than if they each shopped individually or in very small groups. Call it a "volume discount" if you want. As you may or may not know, government employees have some of the best health care plans out there. My mom worked in the local school district for 20+ years and is now retired, and the health care plan her and my dad have from her pension is way better than what I have as a small business owner, yet it costs much less money than my plan does. And it is not "socialized medicine". It is funded through regular private insurance companies just like everyone else's health plans. But because the State of New York had such a large number of employees, they were able to negotiate a better price and better coverage than a small business or individual could negotiate. What Obama is proposing to do is to allow individuals to buy into the government health care plan that the Federal government provides for its employees. It's the same plan that members of congress and many other government employees have. So if you are happy with your current health care plan, then keep your plan. But if you want a better deal, most likely there will be one to be had through the government's plan. While this clearly keeps the health care system running through private insurance companies, what the health insurance companies fear is that over time this will work its way into a "single payer" system. As more and more people drop their current plans and move over to the government's plan to save money, eventually the end result may be a single large group encompassing the majority of Americans, and they will all be paying a lower rate than before when they each had seperate plans. This means less revenue for the insurance companies. So they are against the plan for obvious reasons. And in order to try to scare people into not supporting such a plan, they are running a propganda campaign trying to convince Americans that such a move will result in the government telling you what doctors you can go to, or what health care you can have or not have, etc. But this is a far cry from socialized medicine. It is just offering you alternatives to what you currently have -- alternatives that will most likely save you lots of money.

Eric, if that is actually true, then I can not argue with that. It sounds good to me. My friend's wife is a teacher and they are on her plan because it is so much cheaper. I am not exactly sure what their exact coverage is compared to my current plan, but I do know that it is cheaper per month.
Thanks for taking the time to write that out. I can't argue with a good idea and frankly, I can't see any downside with that right now. |

Original poll question: Are you in favour of wealth redistribution? Edited poll question: Are you voting for Obama? (the response options were changed as well) Whoever changed the poll (just in case it wasn't you) should be ashamed.
