Just to wrap up my experience, finally got the car that I was after, ended up with:

Feb 10 build (delivery week 1 in April)
3.0d
Sport (+20” 214’s)
Innovation ( inc top view camera & new iDrive)
Met. Paint (Black on Black)
Running Boards
Panorama Glass Roof
Extended Connectivity (useless option imo)
Corp. Package (2 Years servicing)

All up 103 d/away.

Dee - you got a good deal. I'm also taking delivery of a Feb10 build 3d same specs except 3rd row and no sport. Unfortunately within a few months our model is also obsolete...

you mean the LCI update? if so its not much change really.

perhaps if you had the 35D then yes as it would be discontinued and replaced by the 40D, but for the base diesel i wouldn't bother.

Also the price is very attractive, there's probably $15-20k in savings overall in my price, and i think, 3 years down the track when you sell it for $30k nobody is going to give you a $15k premium since your bumpers are redesigned.

You would have to think that the 2010 30d will suffer the least in depreciation when the new models come out. After all, it's the only nameplate that will be carried over going forward.

Depreciation

If a new 40d is going to be around $145k driveway then I'm not too worried about depreciation on my $105k driveway 2010 sd - the gap is too big and I'll likely swap it out in a year anyway once heat is off the 'newness' of LCI models and bugs are ironed out given all the new parts that 'Rhonda' and her team in the US have been 'assembling' ....

I may even just hold out for next gen X5 and leapfrog the LCI - at the rate BMW are popping out new updates to compete with Audi etc I suspect we'll see the new X5 sooner than expected ...in the meantime I'll enjoy the here and now of my 2010

and who knows - once kids are out of car seats in 3-4 years time I might just dump the SUV gig and get a secondhand 911 S with PDK - they should be down to around $140k by then

Apparently BMW update there models every 7 or so years; my dealer was surprised that there was 2011 LCI model (mini?) upgrade as it's mid cycle.

My guess is that BMW has lost too much SUV market share since their last model release, and decided that they couldn't wait.

they lost market share because the x3 looks wrong, and the original x5 (e53) was too small. Currently imo X5 is the pick out of anything in its segment.
