Yes, not sure where it comes from.

I believe the M badging is a pride of ownership mind set. M owners understand this. It's not about snobbery, but about attaining the ultimate BMW for that particular model.

fraserp 11-23-2009 09:05 PM

I agree with you (dragon). I am sorry my bimmer is not a "m" maybe one day i will be able to attain the ultimate BMW, but for now I will just pretend and enjoy the impression it gives. hey !! its just like women we sometimes dream of that Super model type but if we have one that looks good and can dress like a super model go for it and enjoy-- if you are lucky you might attain the supermodel if not hey- you came close. hahahah

Really no idea what you are inferring, however.

How about a quick summary?

I provided a source of reference to refute your claim that there are tuned E53's out there that are quicker than a true X5M. Feel free to provide a source for a tuned E53 capable of clearing 60mph in less than 4 seconds flat (aside from E53 LM)...then we can debate.

If rebadging ones car with a performance oriented badge has nothing to do with performance...what does it have to do with? I have yet to see a true performance auto with badging of one with less performance.

fraserp 11-23-2009 11:48 PM

I hope i am not breaking the rule by mentioning another car on this site but my cousin has a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo - this car is modified to the extreme. he cleans up the 1/4 mile in just over 11 sec. he uses it for racing. he took off the evo. badge, rear spoiler, and rims making it look like a sweet ordinary Lancer- grocery getter. well the plan is for a sleeper. His car is naasty. with no performance badges. so the badge is just what you like.

dragoncoach 11-24-2009 01:31 AM

Real Sleepers are BAAAAAAAD! It's cool to see someone try to race one and get their doors blown off! :wow:

Wait a second- you provided a page number for a magazine..Were you expecting I would be able to find a back issue and actually be able to look at the article you referenced? ATLEAST give me a link.

Either way, it is completely beside the point. It seems as though you saw the word "disagree" and just couldn't take it.

First of all, car and driver hasn't tested more than a handful of e53's. To assume that, because a magazine says so, there are no heavily modified e53's (even with complete engine swaps) that could compete with an x5 M is just rediculous. That being said, my point had NOTHING to do with an e53 outperforming an x5m.

What I said was that no matter how fast the vehicle (even if it is faster than the real thing), if it doesn't say "M" from the factory, it shouldn't have an "M" badge, because its not an "M". So what it has to do with is misrepresentation of the vehicle, not performance. An "M" is a model line, not specifically a performance rating. Just because a heavily modified 335i could be faster than a stock M3, doesn't mean BMW should send the owner an M badge to stick on the car-thats just stupid.

If you are looking for a formalized debate, you've got the wrong venue. I hav better things to do then find a source that shows there is such thing as a sub 4.0 second 0-60 e53, though logic would suggest that it has been done. That litterally had nothing to do with my statement...

OK, having a "M" badge on my Bimmer has insighted another (discussion). Let me ruffle some more feathers -- Gottalovebimmer I love your bimmer its very clean and I love the 4.6/4.8 rear spoiler. would love to get some for my 4.4, however i would not want to mis-represent my 4.4 I am also thinking of getting the 4.8 cat back. Personally I dont need to do 0-60 in under 4 sec but i love the look and sound. Hey I live in NY there is not much roads for that anyway. Also thinking about the "M" steering wheel and 4.8 instrument cluster. are you thinking along that line too ?? notice that you dont have a side badge on good work --- KEEPS THEM GUESSING hahahah

GoTTaLoVeBiMMeR 11-25-2009 05:06 AM

thanks guys. here are few more. i'm thinking of getting an exhaust and rims.

BMW also put ///M badges on there m sport option for all BMW's. My BMW x5 3.0 m sport has got m badges on it but it is not an ///M, It's just the m sport option so BMW have done the same thing.

Only update no in these pictures are white LED side turn signal/parking lamp bulbs. Really improves the look with an all white and blue light.

antochat 11-28-2009 03:21 PM

Very Nice! Where did you get the bulbs?

powers1 11-28-2009 04:15 PM

Wow!Love that black grill.....completely transforms the front..VERY agressive.
Those wheels...are they 22"???

X5X 11-28-2009 05:25 PM

Nice X

TheGodfather 11-28-2009 06:09 PM

Thanks guys,

The LED bulbs were purchased from Canadian Tire (eurolite's i think) $16 a piece.
- They are not THAT bright, but they look much better than the yellow/orange tinge of the old bulb as shown in the picture, especially at night. They are simply white and blend perfect.
- I am getting an indicator for turn signal bulb out. I guess it has to do with the very little power they use.

The wheels are 22" replica 168's that I bought from lakeshore wheels. It seems these have recently become hard to find.

Hey all! I'm brand spanking new here and am happy to have found this forum. I own a 2001 X5 and well... Here she is. Now I cut the front end off -__- because I was in a rush, that is a Volcano in the background "Amboy Crater" in Amboy, California and we had just walked to, hiked up the rim and back down to the car which was a long walk so we were all tired and wanted to leave. But any who here she is!

I guess you could also say Staggered rims dont belong on suv/sav, its reserved for dragsters, Air suspension dont belong on suv/sav its reserved for luxury cars, the mustang mach 1 shouldnt have mach 1 because it cannot do mach1. why is it everybody is an expert on what badge to put on a vehicle. I say if you like it go with it. some BMW x5 has dinnan on it is it a dinnan maybe not maybe its just a exhaust or cai but I like the dinnan badge also. let me sit back and read what the "so-called" experts have to say.

I'd would bet there is an e53 out there that has been modified enough to compete with the new x5m in a line...

Would take a lot of work, and it would not be N/A, but what are the chances of someone NEVER setting up a twin turbo e53 with a lot of boost and maybe some gas?

In europe, 4.6 and 4.8 BMW x5's have wheel arch extensions/fender flares at the front as well as the back, but in the US it looks like they only come at the back, why don't they have wheel arch extensions/fender flares at the front too?

I'm on my second 4.6iS and had them installed on both :D ...Front wheel arches/fender flares were an option in the US. There are usually certain accessories or functions that Euro X5's have that US isn't privy.

Any weight savings on the wheels?

disturbedk24 02-21-2010 07:36 AM

yes, alot. the wheels are volk racing te37's 20x8.5 and 9.5, i havent gotten a chance to weigh without tires but should be about 20 pounds per wheel, theyre forged aluminum

as soon as i pulled out of the tire place i noticed a huge difference "peppiness" and overall power/handling from the amount of rotational mass reduced

fraserp 02-21-2010 11:31 AM

spec on rims seems great but i just cant seem to get over the design-- in my opinion looks kinda like what you would see on a honda civic. well at 20 lbs lighter, Volk racing, stagered forged aluminum I guess i can overlook the design and accept the performance facts.

Why did you go an inch narrower in front and rear than stock?

Nice! I've got a set of Volks on the car. ;)

The TE's usually spoke flush to the edge of the wheel with no lip... why do those TE's have a lip? Are they LE-37's? More info on offset, and why an inch narrower?

Thanks, and again nice choice in wheel.

disturbedk24 02-22-2010 03:36 AM

many questions!

yes they are like something you would see on a civic, i have one civic with te37's, one with re30's, one with se37k's, an integra with le37k's and a integra on something i havent decided on yet, the m5 in the pictures is going to be on ce28's soon and i have some te37's awaiting my tundra. forged monoblock wheels from volk are very popular motorsports wheels. and i just happen to love most of their designs.

the wheels are an inch narrower than stock 4.6 wheels because they came off an m6, i bought them for the m5 but when i got the 4.6 i knew these would complete it, you really dont NEED 275/315 tires. and im not sure if they have released a 20x10.5 in the 5x120 bolt pattern, but either way im not too interested in spending 1800/ish per wheel to do that:thumbup:

i saw your gtc's in your profile:thumbup:

they have a lip because theyre huge and wide, when you start getting into the 19x10.5's they start getting lips. le37t's the te37's with a polished lip are identicle the "LE" just designates a polished lip as in le28 le37t and le37k.

and thanks:thumbup: i love the wheels, 20" are pretty much never seen since they havent been around long and are 2x the price of the 19's, these wheels get compliments from everybody that talks to me about the car, i added my personal touch to the 4.6 and it paid off:thumbup:

The wheels look odd because of the fenderwell gap.

ive actualy never thought about lowering it until you said that, it makes sense because i dont need the extra ride height, but i will be selling the x soon(without the wheels;) ) and moving onto a tundra(also on te37;) )

Matyoka 03-26-2010 01:53 PM

How true LPMM. Once the gravel is off the roads, the car is out of the garage. The Montana roads are traffic free plus the scenery arround here is mostly mountains, meaning great driving experience.

LOL. I guess the rim size is not the issue but the flat round look of it. If the 22" wheels were spoked (Like M Parallels or stock 4.8 wheels) they would have looked OK.

But it's not my car and the choice of looks is on the owners. I have seen X5's with blacked out Headlights/Taillights/Windows with Chrome trims and Spinners, so nothing phases me anymore.

MINIz guy 04-04-2010 10:12 PM

Had time today and spent a few hours detailing our E53 X5. Boy did that need some work; I went through 3 pieces of clay just to get the paint feeling smooth again! I didn't pay attention to our E46 as I ran out of time, and our E70 is leaving for something else in a few weeks so I didn't bother cleaning it. I might clean the E46 and do a proper interior clean on the E53 and E46 since I am still off because of April break.

Onto the pictures. I'm still learning how to use my Canon T1i, so please forgive me of the bad pictures.

IrcigarX5, nice X and I love your Boxer. My Boxer is over 7 years old now. She used to love to ride in the M with the top down screaming down the Autobahn. I need to take a picture of her in her new '06 X.

Very cool display in the sunvisor. Can you post some details about it? Brand, how is it wired, where you got it done, cost, etc?

I was wondering if you guys could tell me where you purchased your fender flares and aluminum runng boards. I've checked out Tischer and http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214760.

Are these the correct part numbers? I've researched this at length in the forums but when I go to Tischer or other BMW parts websites they say the flare part numbers below are w/o RBs...?

Flares, rear left 51 71 7 051 035
Flares, rear right 51 71 7 051 036
Flares, front left 51 71 7 051 037
Flares, front right 51 71 7 051 038
Aluminum Running Board Kit 51-71-0-017-315
Extra plastic rivets (blind rivet) is 51-71-7-002-953

Thank you,
Benny

X5 Meister 04-27-2010 02:10 PM

Did you read the enormous fender flare thread? Twinspoppa did an incredible job putting it together, he is the expert on it.

I did read it and this is where I extracted this info. from. But, as I stated when I go to Tischer or trademotion.com it list the fender flares w/o running boards.

Fantastic! I think that is the best color combination for these trucks! Although I think the same of my Sapphire Black on Black. Post some photographs of your interior when you have a chance too!

X5 from London, UK

Olivin seems to be a rare colour option on the X5 especially since it was only available between 2004 and 2006. It's a really nice colour and varies in colour in different light. It's a kind of grey/green/gold and I personally think a well balanced colour for the E53 and quite unique as is this X5.

Spec
Exclusive black Nappa seat + Comfort + heated
OEM 4.8i wide arch kit
Colour coded body kit
OEM 4.6i 20" alloys
Full Comms pack
Light tints up front matching the sun protection rears.
Running boards
etc.

Anyway onto the pics.
