Exhaust looks tits man. I would say just get the 4.6is / 4.8is exhaust trims, the big hole gets cleaned up a bit with those but the big hole doesn't look bad. Or try trimming your stock exhaust cutout pieces first to see if those can look clean.

The wheels are growing on me on the 4.8is, I didn't really like it from the other angle in the different pic... would look even better with 20mm spacers on the rear.

Running 15mm on them now. Waiting for a set of DRA 30mm. The wheels are the same spec as style168, BTW.

It is a little dinged up, but I plan on fixing it up.
So far I put back the OEM rims on it, a matte black grill, and a K&N air filter.
I might want some angel eyes and also need to change up the rear lights, thinking about LED.
I'm thinking about plastidipping the rims black to match the trim as well...
I want to do some more classy mods to it, let me know what else I should do!

New to this Forum!!

What do you guys think of my X5? I recently tinted my windows and plasti dipped my rims! I just wanted to see how black rims would look but im thinking about actually getting real black rims.

Anything else i should consider doing to my ride!

Ricky Bobby 08-27-2013 08:15 AM

The possibilities are endless depending on your budget, windows and wheels look good! Did you do the fronts at all? I'm not really a fan of when the tint shade front/rear don't match but that's just my opinion.

tmv 08-27-2013 09:17 AM

:xoutpost: Dilbarsc92

I'm not a fan of black wheels on light color car without separation, such as polish rims. I do have charcoal color wheel but the rim is polished to separate it from the tire.
I can't see the front kidney grills, but if you haven't do it, they need to be black to match with your theme.
The NW always has a place in my heart. My parents and brother still live there in Seattle.

I feel that the Wheels are way to Big for the X5 the brake rotors look way to small now...i would want to see this in 20" maybe it will give more stance and appeal..IMHO

Come on my wheels are not redonkulous. Here is better picture

Ricky Bobby 09-03-2013 08:47 AM

to each his own, in my opinion the wheels and the painted window trims make your X look like it's auditioning for the next Lil' Wayne video however

tmv 09-03-2013 09:48 AM

:iagree:

I like the wheel design, but they are too big for my taste. The painted window trim and pillards hurt the X appearance.

Too big for my taste too, Big wheel mod must be done with BIG brake pkg to look right. More then a 1.5" gap between caliper and wheel looks ricer.

All the black trim painted blue for a monochromatic look would help.

Csulik 09-03-2013 01:17 PM

Really nice clean X!
Actually i love that gunmetal rim, with this blue, but like the other guys said, those rims are way too big,i prefer 20" too, even 22" i big..
But you should paint those window trims to gloss black, because only lil wayne would like these blue trims:D..

Anyway,it's a clean X,in a good condition,nice rig!

So i think you should paint the trims, mirrors, and stuff like that,to gloss black,it would look amazing with this blue!

I thought the same thing when I saw the pic. I am OCD about unsprung weight and got staggered 19s that are only load rated to 680 Kg each (5984 lbs GVW max), the rear tire/rim assy is under 50 lbs each. The downside is I have to mount the OE wheels/tires when I tow with a loaded truck. Pic in post #1562.

This is not a lot of mass the wheels are fully forged centers and barrels with titanium nuts and bolts. The fronts wheels weight 36lbs and the rears only 39 lbs.

Those weights are wheels without tires. The D'lop Sport Max in 315-35-20 weighs in at 46 lbs tire alone. Tire/rim assy is around 85 lbs.

Not to mention, the further away the mass is from the center, the more force it needs to change speed

Not saying its the end of the world or whatever, to each their own and all. If you dig the wheels, rock on. :)

I disagree but maybe that's just me, I feel like the E53 looks perfect with the staggered 20s that are flush to the fenders without spacers.

The fender flares from the 4.6/4.8 are ok I guess when the front and rear valances are added, but I feel like they look too much like an "add on" especially when there are no flares on the front. Then if you have the rear flares and stock 20s you need to add spacers out to flush the wheels up with the fenders.

I still say perfection, especially that we have 3.0's .....

Le Mans blue diesel with 168's, running boards, arches, and sport package? I'm in love!

bcredliner 10-17-2013 11:50 AM

Those mud flaps look to me like they are part of the flares, I like them.

bcredliner 10-17-2013 11:57 AM

I have always liked how the running boards help tie in the wheels with the overall paint scheme. Nice X!

Don't have a clue. I assumed they were universal aftermarket mud flaps modified and attached to the flare so they followed the contour of the wheel well.

Check with the Aussie guys....many of the pics I've come across from down under have those kinds of flaps as well.

Maybe leave word in the Australian section?

KyleNatolix5 10-18-2013 09:57 PM

thanks, completely forgot about the regional section.

MINIz guy 10-18-2013 10:33 PM

I feel that those mudflaps the Aussies have are similar to the IKEA cutting board ones Subbie guys use. Basically, it is a pretty thin plastic board that they cut to fit. It secures using the stock plastic rivets on the car.

Yep, DEPO. They were on special for $599 for the set, from EAS.
I reuse the OEM ballast and Xenon bulbs, plug-n-play there, as far as angel-eyes, I created a small FET op-amp amplifier to tap the park-lamp switch (the one you use to turn park and main light), very clean just like newer BMW in look and function.

I'm not all that high on the wheels. I'd prefer the staggered 19" set up. The 18's are great for tire prices in comparison though. I just wish the previous owner installed the correct tire size.

It has 235/60/18 all the way around, it should have 255/55/18.

Skip the 19" and go to 20". Look better and tires cost about the same. 20" tires are easier to find too.

Where are you boys measuring from? Im curious where my heights are to y'all now!

Ricky Bobby 06-04-2014 10:05 AM

Bottom of rim edge to the bottom lip of the fender S, let me know what your heights are!

X5SND 06-04-2014 10:30 AM

Ride height is about 27 1/4" F & R (+/- 1/8"). Access mode should be about an inch below that ...but I haven't measured it yet. I can also use "drop" function which puts me at 5% of my ride height. (Tires tuck with that! Lol)

That pic I posted of the X beside the building a few posts back is my access height.

Ricky Bobby 06-04-2014 11:05 AM

That's about what I will be setting mine too, 27 1/4 is about stock access height on sport models.

Visually it's the height that keeps the wheel gap around the tire pretty much even. Any lower and the tops of the tires start to look too close and too "aftermarket" IMO. I would also be concerned with damaging stuff on anything but smooth roads if I set me normal ride height any lower. (Aaaaand our roads are poop here!!!)

KansasX 06-07-2014 12:07 PM

I like to just cruise in it now. I knew true enthusiasts would frown upon daring to do this, but you won't see another like mine! Pictures don't do justice, for some reason I get more compliments from the >40 club :dunno:

Take it easy fellas's! I still have the 87's in the garage!

All tires are 275/25/24

goodie2sandles 06-07-2014 02:16 PM

Rims that size..(each their own i guess) you would def need a BBK to fill that gap...
But yeah...I guess you got the grunt to move that extra weight around

Since lowering ride height is about lowering center of gravity, appearance or filling more of the wheel wells and different size rims and different size tires change one or more of those goals, seems to me the constant would be to measure from the bottom edge of the wheel well to the ground?

X5SND 06-07-2014 08:22 PM

BC, using the ground to fender would result in a ride height that was dependent on tires. Measuring from the edge of the wheel to the fender results in suspension height excluding the possible (slight) variance from different tires. Of course I should mention that since we're all on 20's this method is kind of an "assumed shorthand". It wouldn't be as easy to apply it across different diameter wheels.

motordavid 06-07-2014 08:35 PM

No xpert, but less low profile tires fill up more wheel well cat hideouts...all other things 'being equal'.

There was a long ago poster, flew recon/comm planes for the Air Force, that put 18" 'tall'/less low profile snow tires on a set of winter wheels: large as in 275/70R 18, or something like that, and they filled the wheel wells completely.

Very difficult to 'fill the well' with the common 45 or 40 series profile tires, regardless of wheel size, imo.
GL, mD

Got off topic... :(

Ricky Bobby 06-07-2014 11:34 PM

I'm just passing along the measurement figures and specifications according to BMW so that when we measure our "ride height" the control factor is the same and we can measure according to wheel size.

Of course BMW is assuming we are all using stock tire sizes lol

I understand keeping your 17" tires is an asset of yours. I respectfully understand the opportunity cost in your decision. However, I am SMDH at your opinion as you would state...as I am a proud owner of my X5. This thread is stated "Show Us Your X5!!". If you're interested in my style 87 wheels, PM me for details.

Yes, tire height would make a difference, that is part of my point.

From what I read many of those asking what to do want to achieve a look are referencing another X5 pictured in a post. Even if they are not, the goal is almost always how to lower the vehicle and fill the wheel wells.

If there is any variation between rim size or tire size how low the vehicle is or how much the tires fill the wheel wells will differ. Don't know about anyone else but I am always surprised how big a difference a small change appears.

That said, I can't think of a lowering option that either the drop is not stated or the method is not adjustable so my point is meaningless in the end, just thought if was worth mentioning.

2006 x5 4.4i Got her a year ago and could not be happier! She came with 84k miles on her which I don't think is bad for an 06.

How do you find the Osram Nightbreakers? I nearly bought a set but wasn't convinced they would be white enough

I bought these for the brightest output. I'd have to say, they are very white when warmed up.

Ricky Bobby 06-30-2014 09:11 AM

Osram Nightbreakers can be bought at The Retrofit Source, among other sources, but I tend to trust TRS since they sell genuine and there are SO MANY fakes out there

That's where I was planning to buy them from. I just bought a an order from TRS for a retrofit I'm doing for a friend and was planning on ordering some nice D2S bulbs to upgrade the OEM x5 bulbs at the same time as shipping to Australia is not cheap.....but then I realise I don't even have an x5 yet and that I should probably concentrate on that first......haha.

Ever used the CBI's?
I have to replace my bulbs sometime this summer
Night breakers as I understand, they replaced the SVS..
At 4200k I tought they will have a hint of yellow...that's why I'm shifting more towards 5000k CBI
Let me know thanks!

Ive been on the fence between the NB and CBI's... I wanted the most lumens as possible and went with the NB. They are actually very white. I haven't noticed a hint of yellow but then again, i've only been concern about the light output from the driver's seat.

I've been very happy with the brightness, but I'm itchin for a little blue. Right when you start the car... it's hard to see the blue turn to white! LOL I might consider the CBI's in the future.

That was my dilemma exactly

I asked TRS which they preferred for output and their response was 'it's a coin flip' so I reckon CBI is the way to go

FWIW, Personally I found the CBI hard on my eyes over long drives....they don't cope well with the increased blue and found my eyes straining when trying to discern terrain at the edge of the cuttof. If you want maximum usable light on the road go with the SVS (or whatever its replacement is).

As the boys at TRS pointed out though it's pretty much down to personal preference.

For what its worth, after about 50 hours of burn-in, NB's and any 4300k bulb tends to settle around 4500k which is perfect, the initial "yellowness" of the bulb dies off.

My Philips 85122's were replaced last year and look amazing now once they have some burn in time on them.
