M54 has a level sensor at the bottom of the expansion tank, just like the N62.
They do have a low coolant warning like the others.

If the water pump impellers took a shit. The coolant won't be pushed thru, and that's how shit gets blown.

Yes, but I thought that low level cluster M54 cars did not have a warning light... or something to that effect. I am going off memory here so could definitely be wrong. :dunno:

Low cluster no level warning. First indication is usually steam escaping hood since the temp non gauge virtually useless.

If it's cold am ambient out, you'll lose cabin heat before the low coolant light would trip. Apparently the heater cores are very high and full with air when less than 2L low

Installing high flow cats... believe it or not, the OE cats were on their way out. I will not be surprised if it feels more powerful and better MPG (Pics later) and a new vid for sound compartion

I too am a member of the 1.4 bar cap club and I agree with higher pressure = higher boiling point but I also agree that it causes more wear on parts...

I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to everyone as it is not OE but I would also rather have it vent and see steam from under the hood vs blow an EP or Rad.

For what it’s worth I’ve been running it for almost 25k miles and 2 years now - and I run the dog shit out of mine, with no issues.

I'd love to put a 1.4bar cap on, but to be honest I'm not sure what is (if any) difference in my X5 since it's a Gulf version. Realoem.com doesn't seem to show any real difference but maybe it's something in how the confuser is set up for running in 47c heat:dunno: and my coolant readings have never gone over 105c

The prestone Europe formula is blue like BMW "Smurf blood" and what I'll probably use when I do a coolant flush.

You won’t see any operational difference, the gauge will still run dead center. What it does is lower the pressure in the cooling system theoretically extending the life of the components and potentially avoiding an expansion tank, hose or radiator (catastrophic) blow out.

It actually will make no difference until the is a failure that causes higher temp than normal. Normal temp range will produce less than 1.4bar
