Like my E53 I noticed a bit quieter engine and running well so far. Absolutely no complaints. I know the 5w-30 is an across the board spec but with our heavy trucks I like the 5w-40 in all season temps (except maybe the frozen tundra) as I feel it gives a bit better wear protection being a touch heavier.

I've heard great things about ESP though - but considering I've used it for almost 4 years in 2 other vehicles and it's readily available at $21 a gallon at Wally World I will likely be sticking with T6 for the duration we own it.

Got my "CodeMyCar" tuning list and I am going to have some changes done to my "Helga". Also an oil change with Shell Rotella T6 5w-40. I love this oil. Good and robust.
;)

I've been running Rotella during this OCI.

But, as a reminder, it's not BMW LL-04 approved.

Oh! You've got the SI anyways, so yeah...now it makes sense. I just always assume everyone has the 35D, because that's what I have.

I run T6 as well - LL-04 is only necessary if you are doing factory long drain intervals - I do not, 7k-7500 miles tops - in these intervals T6 will be doing wonderful for your 35D engine -

T6 has low ash (1% spec vs. the BMW oil at .8%) so its perfectly fine on the DPF, you just don't want anything over 1% to be "within spec" and rated for DPF - I'll be changing out again in another 2-3k miles just because I want to do a couple short intervals to clear up any gunk that might have accumulated during the first 40k miles using 12k OCI's -

The engine runs super strong and quiet since changing out, I'm sure it was happy to get fresh oil and filter in there.

Ended up doing an oil change tonight, draining the Rotella. Last one was at 109K. Was at just over 114k, and iDrive said I had 1,400 miles left before oil service. Seems like I was trending short on this OCI.

Was very surprised at the crud accumulated on the filter. Having never changed a diesel before, not positive if that's normal or if it may be partially due to driving habits and/or oil used.

Filled with 8qts of Mobile 1 ESP 0w-30 and reset the service via Carly.

Took a short drive then measured via dip stick. Just about 3/4 between min and max. Perfect!

Added 2 gallons of DEF in the passive tank as well. Oddly, after a short drive, Carly still reported 6% level in the passive tank. May need to drive a bit longer for it to pull the new level.

Not today, but Sunday...did the oil filter housing gaskets (cooler, too) and belt tensioner and idler. My N52 is much happier now! I also learned about the coolant bleed procedure!
