Over the last couple of days I decided to take on a project I had no clue would be so involved. I got tired of seeing the hazard sign in my gauge cluster telling me that the windshield washer fluid was low. Every time I filled it, it would start leaking out really slowly to the point where the sensor would read no fluid.
I started by thinking I was just gonna take the passenger fender off and inspect the reservoir for cracks. Well, that turned out to be a huge PITA. So i nixed that idea & took the front wheel off to get into the wheel well. With all the light I could get I started pouring in water and searching for the leak. When things were not progressing, I ended up pulling out the fender liner (which I hate for the simple fact that the fender flares have to come off at least partially and you have to buy new rivets.) To make the story short, I had to de-loom the giant wire harness running through the fender well/fender just to get to the washer fluid lines. They were taped up in the harness. I FINALLY discovered a pinhole leak in the line from the reservoir to the windshield sprayer. I pulled that line and took it to BMW in hopes they'd have one. No dice. They had to order the hose but also threw in a repair kit of a thing which I just didn't ask what it was about. So this is Thursday and my car is torn apart, wires exposed, can't drive it. Waiting until Monday or Tuesday to receive the part. This afternoon I decide to go retape the harness and leave the washer lines out of the bundle. I peer at the repair kit they gave me (I bought) and low and behold that's all I needed! Cut the hole out, put in the new section of line and it all op checked good! All that damn work and pain just to replace a washer fluid line and to get rid of the warning message in the cluster :thud: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/269/32...402a1122_b.jpgIMG_1443 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/677/32...1da757a0_b.jpgIMG_1444 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/632/32...73126b28_b.jpgIMG_1445 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/528/31...0c4eacc7_b.jpgIMG_1446 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/380/32...06cab187_b.jpgIMG_1447 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/527/32...62c29e99_b.jpgIMG_1448 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/506/32...51e53ee2_b.jpgIMG_1450 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/594/32...6a370422_b.jpgIMG_1453 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/765/32...a1fefca4_b.jpgIMG_1455 by Chase Shands, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/414/32...612fdf9a_b.jpgIMG_1462 by Chase Shands, on Flickr |
Well this weekend I did the following:
-Wash and Seal -Airbag stickers on sunvisor delete (91% alcohol and a few cotton balls and about 20 mins) -Air filter changed to AFE Pro Dry S panel filter (OE filter I retained in case I need to go to dealer, was filthy after 15k miles, which was when it was last changed according to service records) -Oil Change - 8 quarts of Rotella T6*, OE filter, and Dimple Products magnetic drain plug X is running quiet and wonderfully. Oil was black and dirty (although that is not an indication of protection), and the oil jockeys had 2 CRUSH WASHERS ON THE DRAIN PLUG - Stuff like that irks me to no end, and makes me happy to do the majority of my own maintenance. *Cue flame suit and the GASPS because I didn't use LL-04 approved oil - I could give two shits about long term intervals, I change oil on any engine with a turbocharger every 7k-7500 miles max - super low SAPS is all I care about with the DPF and T6 is approved in that respect |
Quote:
Likely going to go w/ Mobil 1 ESP next change (7.5k interval here as well, cause why not?) to see if I notice any difference in performance or regen. |
