For the RARE times i've tracked any of my cars, i'd rather have street performance all day long. If I wanted to rev the piss outta my car to get any power from it, i'd have bought an S2000.

We are not on the same page here. What is your definition of off the line? I was assuming you meant accelerating to speed at a typical 0-60. What are you defining it as? 0-100? 0-120? Rolling start?

Yeah or an MB. That may be the better choice. BMW's have never been drag racers first, complete cars second.

from a stop.. drag race start, or from light to light.. my 335i with over 440+ ft/lb of torque with JB3, race gas, intercooler, pipes, race cat run 3.3 sec 0-60 and will walk away from an M5 in a drag race up to about 100mph. HP takes over at that point.
0-100 or 0-150 is a much better metric of a cars true performance. Quote:

I hear you, but bashing the current M5 for not having a ton of torque is silly seeing as it is based on the heritage of pretty much every M car before it, not only M5's, which typically means a quick accelerating car (not drag racer) with very balanced performance/handling characteristics and a high revving engine. Even going back to the original e30 M3, which came to life high in the revs. I had an e30 325e that was a fairly torquey car and for everyday driving there was a noticeable difference between that and the e30 M3. I don't know what else to say. If you want a stop light drag racer, the CTS-V and MB's are probably better choices at the present time. We will see where BMW goes with the new TT M engines and the torque numbers that follow. Maybe that low torque, high revving heritage is a thing of the past. If so, there will be as many people upset with that as there are happy with it though.

I wonder what that's going to do to the weight of the M5. Even the current E60 M5 isn't exactly what you'd call.......light. As much of a performance car as it is, I wouldn't buy one as a "sports car". I'll take a M5 Touring for the hilarity of it, but for an executive sedan, a 550i suffices. Or a 540i for that matter. If I wanted a sports car, an M3 is good enough for me.

its pretty sad how a CTS can spank a M5..... (AND $30K less)
but the M5's looks so much better and looks so much faster although not..... |

Yep. Very obvious, huh?
Audi is a distant second.
