If the X ///M's can post 4.1 0-60 with 1K+lbs more...then i can't see why the next gen M5 with possible KERS tech won't usurp the ring record from Panamera. Guess we'll just have to wait and see

Check your figures. The X5M has a bloated 2453 lbs more curb weight over the current M5. We can assume the new M5 will be similar in weight to the current M5. That means the new M5 will have spectacular performance.

From what i've read:

X5M curb weight - 5,368 lbs

2009 M5 curb weight - 4,012 lbs

Am i reading incorrectly?

You guys have to keep in mind that the X5M has an AWD system and the Panamera Turbo also has an AWD system. If BMW stays true to their ///M sedan roots and keeps the M5 as a RWD car, it might face problems getting all its power to the ground. Sure, it can make up for it in the track, but will the new M5 be able to achieve the 3.3 second 0-60 time that C&D got with their Panamera Turbo?

I remember them in kg. From the BMW website: X5M curb weight = 2935 kg, M5 = 1820 kg. 1820 kg = 4012 lbs, same as your number, but 2935 kg = 6470 lbs. Not sure if the difference is an error on the website, or design weight being somewhat lower than the actual production weight

Your figures show a 1350 lbs difference. Given that BMW show the X5M curb weight in kg as being greater than the GVW in kg, I believe your figures. I think that B-Line should go weigh his truck so we know for sure.

True...however, i assume the Panamera's AWD is great for takeoff but will hinder performance at higher (track) speeds. With the M5's upcoming TT and new tech...this should be really interesting

E60 M5 weight chart from the manual.

F10 M5 will be lighter than E60 from what I have heard.

Now that is some good news. Nice to see a lower weight associated with a newer model for a change.

There is big initiative at BMW to lower weight across all models and more so on ///M cars as part of EfficientDynamics. The F10 is lighter and M5 will further loose weight. To give you perspective, the new 1-series based ///M is supposed to be close to 2200lbs.
Will see how the next Bob Lutz CTS-V track challenge goes.
