I don't have stock navi in the 7 either, so a tv-in-motion won't be helpful to me as I need a whole headunit. My biggest thing is making sure the headunit is large enough to replace the tape deck (which my single din sits in now), the DSP box (which isn't even in use anymore, it's just filling a hole) and hopefully can take over the MID function/displays as well, otherwise I'll have to relocate it to the glovebox like I did in the X5.

Actually, the guys over at tv-in-motion are making their own version of the Hualingan. They are changing the hardware and software. On the hardware side they are putting in a better disc player and possibly an anti-glare screen plus other enhancements. On the software side they are adding support for the OBC (the information you access currently through the MID). It is unclear if the unit will support DSP systems. No one has beaten DSP yet, minus the work-arounds. Hopefully CKM Car Design will come back with full info on how the current HL can work with DSP.

Haulingan unit

I bought mine last week and it is being ship as I type, I also am planning on redoing the system to bypass the DSP and hook up a 4 channel amp in its place (Alpine MRP-F300 AMPLIFIER 4 CHANNEL AMP). I ordered the sub box from Allstarsrd12 on this board and am planning on putting in an Alpine 500 Watt RMS Mono Car Amplifier with a shallow mount ALPINE SWS-1043D 10" 900W sub. I had already swapped out the speakers with Alpine Type-S SPS 600c, but the sound was still crap. chalked it up to the great X5 radio system.

Has anyone done a complete removal and reinstal of aftermarket components? want to know if there are any gotchas. I have read this thread inside and out and it seems most issues are with making sure the connections to the head unit are accurate. I ordered the new unit with the 40 pin connector so I will see how plug and play it realy is. I will keep you posted.

New head unit - $695 on ebay
Sub encloser - $150 on Xoutpost
Alpine 10" sub - $80 new on ebay
Alpine sub amp- $75 new on ebay
Alpine 4chnl amp - $125 new on ebay
Alpine SPS 600c speakers (2 sets) @ $65 each on ebay.
Install - $400

You're mistaken, the tv-in-motion is a complete head unit, it looks like a Hualingan unit that they are building to their own specs, check out the website.

I don't think CKM got that working. Hualingan is still working on it. I tried everything I could think of to get it going. All I could do was to keep the dsp amp up but that's one part of the problem, the second is dsp to accept the input signal which it hasn't been done yet.

Thanks CKM. I just helped another guy yesterday with DSP and he wasn't able to get sound for more than a few seconds. He had to use my work around.

for my install i didnt like how the brackets were making the unit sit, so i used a saw and filed down the oem brackets then have it secured with an aluminum homemade bracket, i noticed some reference to the glare problems with the screen, dont know how many feel up to it but i tested and successfully found that using a privacy screen or tinted screen protector fixes that problem, i tried it with the screen protector from my phone and now am just ordering a uncut tinted screen protector, then adjusted my screen brightness and havnt had problems

Yes yes! I hate the glare! What's the solution guys? Would it be putting on those anti-glare screen protectors for iPhones that are fingerprint / smudge free? Let me know how you guys solve this issue.

Thumbs up

Hi, I'm a new member, but all the info here is great, since the Hualingan unit doesn't come with any installation info or guide , I installed my unit and took me about 5 hrs....
I haven't figured out how to place the brackets, but I'll do that today, and haven't got my gps working the signal is very weak, I'll recheck the antenna today also, but software works good the Igo8 and polnav, destinator 9 crashes, it seems the unit has very low memory for this kind of softwares, a guy told me he can increase the memory, but I'll post that if I do.

Thanks for all the info, you guys have done a great job and the units look awesome installed, mine improved the sound like 40% with the same speakers, and one question what is the DSP they are talking about?
