Changed the oil and filter a couple of days ago with Liqui Moly Top Tec 4605 5W30 and OE filter. Getting ready to replace the engine coolant and transmission thermostats, glow plugs and glow plug control module.

Some time ago I installed Centric high carbon rotors and semi-metallic pads and there was a comment about brake dust. I've included two photos that show what I've experienced. This is after a little more than 3000 miles of driving.

The dust is red colored instead of gray or black like the OE components but I don't feel it's any heavier than before. The dust comes off mostly with high pressure water and a little soap. The setup is highly effective and dead silent.

Just changed my sway bar links to fix a knock on the passenger side. Didn't work.

Good wash, polish and wax, looks much better. Especially when it gets closer to sunset.

I'll be close to 150k miles next year and I'm preparing for a suspension overhaul.

Changed the throttle valve on my 35d yesterday with a Pierburg OEM unit. It was identical to the OE except the (very lightly) cast roundel was buffed off and a metallic 'Pierburg' sticker with a QR code on it was affixed over it. It took about an hour to replace.

It definitely was oil stained and looked well-used (130k miles). The only sign of oil/carbon was a line about a 1/4" wide running axially towards the EGR valve and into the intake. Everything went well and the shutdown shudder is gone.

Change battery and small stuff

just moved on from an E39. Today changed the battery for an AGM 95 and coded this event. Hope that's enough as there was no time to figure out if they had coded a non-AGM battery in the past as the car had a non-AGM 105 Amp battery that was empty way too quickly.

Judging from the trickle-loader leads fixed mounted in the car the former owner has had issues with this.

Investigating the car further and found some small things. Like one keyfob does work with komfort acces but the other does not. Also the boot lid does not react on the working key fob.

I just did my T.B. as well. amazing that the parts are identical except the 200$ difference in price!!!

Did you have any codes to go with your shut down shudder? Mine was throwing 2 tps codes.

I have also recently done my t-stat... used a Rein the first time and it was sh#ttier than the sh#tty one I replaced! Ended up using a Mahle and have had solid temps ever since. PITA.

043D1 Throttle Control is the only that I'm very sure is related. There are some other DTCs. Which ones did you get?

I'm using an OE thermostat when I replace mine.

It only fixed it on one side of our x35d. Look at the top of your strut towers. See if you see a bunch of foam type stuff disintegrated all over. If so, it's time to do your strut mounts. I have it on the side that was not fixed. I'll be doing both sides though as I like to keep new parts in symmetry. See this youtube video for what to look for. Ours isn't this bad, but the noise kills me.

I used the Facet thermostat when I did the wife's waterpump, thermostat, etc. Now you guys have me a thinking about it because it's not Mahle, Behr, or OE which I usually use. Did it because it came as part of this kit from Turner. Can't beat the price. Guess I'll just continue to keep an eye on temps. Last time I checked they were low 90's.

If it works, it works. It's just not a job I want to do again. I tried a cheaper route with some parts for my M5 and had to repeat some work. Speaking of the M5, it's an E39 and it's not like the OE thermostat is some perfect piece of gold. I get a substantial parts discount at my dealer and Bavarian Auto is a short drive away. Between these two, it often makes no 'cents' (or maybe a little) to not go with OE.

All of this 35d suspension talk is good. I'm racking up the miles since moving.

It's not the strut mounts that go bad. That dust is from the top foam bushing that goes in between the strut mount and the metal washer at the top of the strut. There is 3 such foam bushings per strut that go bad over time. Check out my strut rebuild DIY thread.

Yes, but if you're in there for that foam doughnut... best to replace the rest of it too. I was speaking of a total servicing to the strut mount. You're thread was where I was able to get my diagnosis from on my wife's X. Thanks for taking the time to post it.
