I burnt a disc using MagicISO and my Mk3 could not read it. Now I know why :-) Which CD burning tool creates a bootable CD for the Mk3 nav computer? |

Help Please!! I have a working copy of Navtweak but don't have a clue how to use it. I merely want to replace the boring "BMW" Splash Screen with an AC Schnitzer logo that I have obtained. It's a 9.58 Kb JPEG image.
Do I have to convert the image from JPEG to GIF? & which file needs replacing? ![]() NB: I worked out how to do it today, so forget this post thx.

you need a couple of things... - first of all a graphics editor, but thats not the most hard thing to get hands on ;-) I suggest saving/converting the image to gif, to rule out errors, as the original images is also a gif... - Second, you extract the contents of the VXX file (newest version is V28) to a folder on your hard drive. - You download he navtweak2.2 program (links available across this website, older version also works) - you find the file "navboot" (there's no extension, just navboot) and you open this file with the navtweak program. (file location : V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\app_sw) - if navtweak won't start, you need the GTK software, the links are also available on this site (do a search for "gtk") and copy the navtweak.exe file in de bin directory of the fresly installed gtk drectory. - once opened, go to the second tab called "images" and browse down. You will see every image used in the BMW software on the map etc. The bootup image is located in the 'rombitmaps' tab, just below the main tabs, you can't miss it... -simply rightclick on the line you want to change and select replace. select you own image, save the file and write the contents of the whole cd to a new blanc CD-R at very low speed (to minimize read errors , you definitely don't want those ) - go to your car, key in the ignition on the first position (when you can use the radio, but not all of the dashboard is lit up), insert the cd in the trunc - wait and pray ;-) It hasn't gone wrong once so... the screen will tell you what to do, but mostly is says "wait" ;-) Hope this helps.. any more questions? just ask |

Thank You Sonic393 but I worked it out myself today. However, your instructions should be posted as a "Sticky" for all the other imbeciles like me....
![]() & furthermore, it is not as simple as you say. I had to copy my V28 CD to my HDD, make an UltaISO image on the HDD then copy the "Navboot" file elsewhere on the HDD then use NavTweak to open up the "Robotimaps" files on the copied (Not ISO image) V28.Look for the 400 x 234 pixel file (Which if you click on shows the boring BMW logo) then use "NavTweak" to replace the GIF file into your saved "Navboot" file. I then used UltraISO to replace the ISO V28 Navboot file with my saved "Navboot" file & burnt it at 4x speed. A great result - I now have the AC Schintzer Logo on start up. I did have to reload my earlier V27.1 OS then again reload my ACS modified V28 OS to update the firmware on my Nav Computer - but that is normal. By the way, I used Navtweak V1 as V2.2 just would not work for me - & I have a state of the art PC.... Anyway, I am grateful for your advice, but to anybody computer illiterate it means not a lot. It's only simple if somebody can produce idiot proof instructions. I was the Head of IT for the F&CO in Bosnia/Serbia a few years ago & as such realise that the "experts" can spout forth about "perl" etc. That means nothing to the average guy/gal on this forum. The expertise is here. All it requires is for an "expert" to put instructions into plain English - which I hope that I have done......... Mike

Is there an easy way to replace all sound files? I'd like to change volume of all sound files and then reload them back. I can extract the files with csfdump, but it there a similar program/function in NavSpeak to put them all back with just one command i.e. replace all? |

Yes, you can make the text longer.
For MENU my text is now: "MENU Jochen's 540i dir 116" The dir 116 was me working out which directory my car would use to load the software. Also, I replaced the 9kb GIF boot image with a 45kb GIF boot image, no problem |
