I have a trunk interface dice that I bought a couple of years ago and it says it wont charge my Ipod touch 2g. Do I need to update the firmware?

Just need a new docking cable:

DICE iPod Dock Connector Cable w/ USB Charging
eas - 714.369.8524 | DICE iPod Dock Connector Cable w/ USB Charging

This will restore the charging on the new touch and support current model iPods as well.

Unfortunately, only a hardware change will get your 2nd Gen iPod touch charging on your original DICE kit.
You can either pony up the $40-$50 for a new "DICE" cable, or go snag a Scosche adapter that sits between your iPod and the DICE plug.

The Scosche adapter is about 2" by 2", so it may compromise your current setup if you don't have any extra clearance for your iPod to dock, otherwise it's a good solution because you can take it with you to interface with other devices that don't support charging on the new Apple products.

I may have an adapter to sell soon if the new iPhone 3.0 firmware delivers on new bluetooth profiles (to enable audio streaming via bluetooth to the car stereo)

Sure, a bluetooth adapter ill be required for folks who don't have Bluetooth capable vehicles, but you can't ignore the convenience of cable-free audio through the car stereo.

Video of iPhone 3G v3.0 streaming Bluetooth audio:

Will Dice support the 2g touch? Do you know when this will happen? Otherwise I'm selling my touch and getting a used 1g. I want full control of my ipod again. Do I need that special cable for the 1g touch to work and charge?

The DICE will support both touch generations.

No firmware updates are necessary - just the revised docking cable.

so with that cable I'll have my steering wheel controls for my Ipod touch 2g, artist and song info, and charging too?

lionkang 04-04-2009 09:22 PM

I have the old DICE, not the new silverline. So with this cable Ill have my steering wheel controls back, and charging, as well as song and artist info in the display for my ipod touch 2g?
