Can't Wait

Hello Everybody

I'm one very excited X5 owner to be. Getting my car in August / September. 3.0d space grey black interior walnut trim, aluminium runningboard, sunroof (drool), third row of seats, heated seats. Going from driving a VW bora with heated seats and had to keep that, I love it living in Melbourne. So I think my life will change with this new baby.

Got a call from the dealer and supply is short for standard 18" wheels so to ensure production flows they will be giving me 19" for free, you gotta love that. I'm really hoping for the 'Y' spokes. I loved the 20", but something had to give and 20" meant sports pack as well. This mummy doesn't want to go back to work just yet We managed to talk him into giving us floor mats - wow what a generous guy!

Note on USB for Ipod: We had a look at this and realised one could easily use the port in the centre armrest console and run the cord through the gap in the armrest cover and placing the Ipod just infront of the armrest. There's plenty of room. Maybe try that first and then get retro fitted later if you don't like it.

Sounds a great car ! Did the dealer tell you which 19" wheels you were going to get ? I got the 212's. The USB ipod option gives the option of controlling through i-drive but I guess this can be done via the ipod with just as much distraction. The sunroof on the X5 is AMAZING this was one of the big items which made my mind up between the X5 and the ML350.

Comfort seats

are not currently available as the supplier went broke. If you specify them you are in for a long delay or disappointment when in about 2 months time BMW tells you that you are not getting the car you ordered.

I have heard varying reports about the sport seats. Some love them and some reports are that they are hard.

As my car is coming without Comfort Seats (that I ordered) I have opted for the normal seats but with lumbar support.

IMHO Sport seats are the way to go.. although I do short trips so they should be ok.. The comfort seats in my view will not age well as the leather will crease on this headrests... I also think there is far more to go wrong with them (motor wise as they offer more adjustments..)... I was going to get comfort seats originally and switched to Sports when I was told there were delays so it didn't matter to me anyway as I couldn't get them .!! So I am biased !! .and the decision was easy !!!

we have sports seats in both our X5's (E53's) and are putting comfort seats in both of their replacements. As we already have to wait to get a replacement, a longer wait is worth it in our opinion, as you'll have them a long time.

We drove a 550 M Sport with comfort seats and that sold us. I find on long trips the sports seats get uncomfortable, and I loved the adjustability of the comforts.

Even if we go to Mercedes, their AMG seats are worth the cost. Depends on what you like, but definately worth the cost/time

Cheers

It's HERE!!!

Loves:
- The engine refinement has really impressed
- Ride is far better than what I expected of a BMW on runflat tyres and sports suspension
- The interior truly feels special
- Exterior style
- Aspects of I-Drive
- Dynamics

Hates:
- Light knob always getting knocked out of position by my knee when I climb in
- Aspects of I-Drive
- Useless rear view Camera at night!!!
- Inability to combine parking diagram and the rear view camera on one screen (i'ts one or the other, no compromise. Because the camera is so useless at night, I much prefer the diagram. Hopefully a software update will fix this issue)
- The black grill (ok hate is a strong word in this case...but the silver grill looks soooooo much better. One is on the way!!)

Surprises:
- The sound quality from the standard stereo is actually not bad...thank god!

Hope you guys enjoy the pics. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll post more reviews/oppinions later.

Just a quick question regarding the usb interface option.

Does it cater for non ipod mp3 players like creative zen, samsung etc.

What I am getting to, is that the USB allows you to control your player (ipod or non ipod??) through the steering wheel + i was told it shows the track name on the LCD display... could any ozzies or other users clarify this

Cheers
