OK an update here.....Houston, we have a problem! :(

So the headlights I purchased via eBay are ECE pattern - I'm perfectly fine with that, however the seller does NOT know if they came from a LHD or RHD vehicle. Obviously that is a problem, as I'm not sure if they are usable in the US.

P.S. 330ZHP, thanks so much for your responses, I will follow up once I sort this issue out. I was told you could program a older FRM3 and 'fool' it to thinking its a newer production car in order to get the programming to work? Hmmm.

Well, nevermind, seller found a set of DOT headlights (so bizarre this seller has multiple pairs, did they fall off a truck? heh) and is shipping those instead.

So all is well. Still curious 330ZHP if you are aware of changing the production date in the FRM3 - I was told this would allow the programming to work on LEDs without issue.

Interesting, perhaps the lenses can be electronically adjusted. That would be a cool trick if so, I know in Europe older BMW headlights had a manual adjustment for LHD/RHD as the driving requirements were different in various Euro countries if you traveled across borders.

For me it's fortunately a non-issue as the seller found a DOT set and shipped them today. Like you, the lights will stay in boxes for a few months until the weather warms up.

Yeah if you get bored, I would be curious to throw your older FRM3 module in and change the production date, I heard that will allow you to code the LEDs.

No - we can definitely try that at some point if you want, I was more curious if you wanted (in the Spring of course, haha) to put the old FRM back in, change the vehicle production date in the FRM only, and then try coding the LEDs.

Like you, these lights are going to sit until Spring, which is a bummer as I won't be able to check them for functionality, but I'm hoping I'll be OK.

Just curious, once I get the wiring harness installed and install the lights, prior to any programming, will anything work?

The lights will work, but you will likely get errors on the dash information screen and the functions that cause the headlights to move in sync with the steering wheel may not work properly until you have them coded.

I am interested in accomplishing this LED headlight mod on my X5M at some point. Seems a little complicated though... I'm Hoping that all the bugs are able to get worked out.
