I will! But i want to at least give the impression that I've started troubleshooting on my own first...

You indicate what you tried in your opening post. My AC didn't work when I first bought my car. After evacuation and attempt to refill the "freon" I eventually determined the low pressure sensor wasn't plugged in all the way.

With foxwell NT510 or similar you can command the compressor on to make sure it's working.

If the compressor won't kick on from the dash, more often than not you've leaked enough freon your low pressure sensor is preventing self destruct.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I don't have a Foxwell, but maybe I can do it with my PA soft if I ever get that working again. (I got it talking to the car once, and then it's never worked again.) I'll have a little time tonight to troubleshoot some more.

get a foxwell. I see them for sale almost half price on eBay and xo. Priceless for fixing AC problems because you can do things like "turn on aux fan" or "engage AC clutch" completely independent of anything else even the car running.

I got my Foxwell 510 for $115 shipped brand new with BMW license off fleaBay. IMHO, you need Foxwell, INPA and PA Soft along with a quick Bluetooth ELM 327 generic scanner if you want a full set of tools.

Replaced both Xenon bulbs in my wife's 3.0i. Oil and filter change, detailing, and replaced the passenger front door handle carrier. Recorded a DIY on the Xenon change out:

I got one of those for the Benz. Haven't tried it in the bimmer yet.
My INPA is broken and won't connect to the X5 now. I haven't a clue where to start with it.

I would start here: https://www.foxwelltech.com/?flag=y

took out the fog light that is giving me error messages. Buld was still good, cleaned the unit and the connectors and reinstalled.... no more fault code.

1 day later... bloody light doesn't work again! wonder if the brass terminal on the housing is causing the issue, it's pretty green

I got one as well, if you are in the Northern Virginia Area, you can borrow it anytime.
