I was a little worried about how hot the acoustic cover got though, especially near the EGR pipe etc. at the front - almost too hot to touch after town trip at slow speeds... I've seen pictures of these covers melted away at that point.... My EGR pipe is not water-cooled - just a bare pipe, so maybe that adds to the heat radiating from it, compared to the water-cooled EGR pipe I see on euro cars. Fitted the new (OEM Hella) viscous coupling once it arrived from the UK and the acoustic cover is much cooler... |

The non-cooled EGR pipe has no flexible section, so no worries there. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...LJ7uX&usqp=CAU One thing I wondered about, after changing my (cracked) stainless exhaust manifold for an XR8 cast manifold, I thought it might be worth obtaining the heat shield from the earlier 3.0d X5 (which had a cast manifold as standard), to reduce the heat-soak from the cast manifold to the boost outlet pipe... https://www.realoem.com/bmw/images/diag_eif.png https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/lVAAA...w3/s-l1600.jpg |

Now that you say it I think mine had this heat shield when I renewed the manifold. I also coated the manifold and turbo turbine housing with black satin insulation coating. https://www.designrosendahl.com/dipa...ne-500x500.jpg |

Polished, Buffed out and pushed in two coats of Griot's Best in Show Wax. Got rid of the bird poop splat on the hood too!

Dang Stephen! I can comb my hair in the reflection of that E53! |
I have been doing an anal process as always. It sits under a cover quietly waiting for me to wrap it up. Roof is next then she is completely done except the wheels. Going to pull them off, buff them inside and outside add a coat or two of wax and reinstall. I try to do this annually but I am behind with everything going on and one too many car projects. Need a helper for the next projects!
