Hopefully in a few months I'll get to this project. Between troubleshooting my X5 being unable to idle today without dying, this arrived, along with the silly inserts that the twisty fasteners built into it, lock into. Last week I got sick of this piece rattling around due to all the fasteners being stripped and/or worn out. https://i.postimg.cc/kM89Bfr6/cowl-piece.jpg I had to tape the hinge side of the air filter cover back on with RV butyl tape because I wasn't going to spring for a new upper cowl piece, but it hasn't been this secure in a decade. Popped a new air filter in while I was at it. https://i.postimg.cc/GhxCjtmb/cowl-finished.jpg |
I played bumpy roads as my hood was stuck. [emoji28]
Now hypothetically if someone has given you a bottle of Jameson 12 y/o and you are going to have to pass thru 3 police checkpoints, well an awesome place to put an item is the little cubby that exposes the firewall and hood release cable.... it is at the same time ill advised to allow an object to pinch the hood release cable![emoji849] Sent from my SM-A528B using Tapatalk |

This morning I put the multi meter on the X5 and did a phantom current draw test. This after I blew my old meter up by not being able to follow directions. I puled the negative cable, bridged it to the battery with the meter and saw about 4 to 4.5 amp draw. Then I rested the meter where I could read it though the tailgate glass, closed the car up and locked it. The draw immediately dropped down to 1.5ish amps, then after what felt like 16 minutes it went down to .04 - .05 amps. Good news and I guess the (at least) 5 year old battery in the car just failed a few weeks ago and nothing I have done to the car created an excessive draw. I'm still considering buying a solar, or plug in minder, or both depending on where and when I leave the car for longer periods when out of town. I like the thread somewhere here about the magnetic plug guys have added. Very slick. |

Only complication I ever get with CV axle repair is when the snap rings bind. Went though three until I got one to fit after replacement of outer boot
