Goodness Stephen. 170? I thought Red needed to be driven more and managed to put 3500 on her in 2020 (now sitting right around 125400 miles). Understand the hesitation though. Always a gamble with the idiots out there.

When we parked my buddies 5th wheel camper we knew the tires would be D-shaped if we didn't do anything so we lifted most of the weight off the tires and set the axle on wood blocks. It would be a five minute process to do similar to put a wood block under the suspension arms to relieve most of the tire weight.

I hit 231k this morning!!

Also they make foam filled anti flat spot chocks that aren't very expensive if you want to keep tires in a doughnut shape.

The new OE Michelins tires I installed last year - Michelin Latitude Diamaris, are so much harsher than the Michelin Latitude Tour HP that I put on way back in 2013. They flat spot real fast and hold it longer than anything else I own. Road noise is way up as well. Grip and control is much sharper however so that is the trade off. I would have re-shoed the X5 with Michelin's Latitude Tours but they no longer make the rear tires (YOU BASTARDS!)

In case anyone cares, I got 19k out of the rears and could have gotten much more if I had tracked their wear patterns and adjusted the air inflation rate to match my lone driver and driving style more frequently. No weight, no need for rear tire pressure! Currently running 32psi front and 31 psi rear.

I purchased the OE tires after the originals wore out the first time. Had a similar experience as you. Over the years I have tried several other brands. Didn't like any one of them based on traction, wear, side wall rollover, road noise, comfort and cost. That's my 1-10 value calculation.

Best value has been Continental Extreme Contacts. Good traction, wear longer, good in wet or dry, traction fine, a little more roll over than some others, quiet, nice ride and cost much less than most other options. I am on my second set and recently put them on our X5M as well.

I second this statement. I've got these on both my 4.8 and my E38. And no flat spots on my E38 from sitting over the winter.

We have a 2001 X5 3.0i. 239,000. It's been very well behaved, apart from the oil separator. I think this was a BMW joke. Sorry BMW, not funny. Rear suspension bushes will soon need sorting. One air spring burst at about 220,000. Iffy pixels. That's it.
Also 2001 X5 4.4i. Bought cheap with bad water leak from rear of engine. Whoops! Was on l.p.g so brilliant and cheap. Leak was valley pan. Had been "repaired" with bathroom sealer, not silicone. New part from BMW cheaper. It eat it's timing chain tensioner and developed a serious oil leak from the sump. Gearbox can judder a bit, but must wait until summer now.
My wife says I have a problem as I also have E38 750, E34 540 touring, E36 318i touring on lpg and a too new 2012 320d. Not a problem, surely?

Brought out the white one today that is seeing some more service lately.

2005 X5 4.4 148k miles. She's strong and recently got her Toyo tires sports AS. Wow, what a nice difference compared to Conti EWS06. The Contis were too soft. She's scheduled for an alignment next week. Got a few things that I need to do:
1) Coolant reservoir. Has a slight leak.
2) Fuel filter.
3) Rebuild steering angle sensor.
