Terminator, can you please try to see if you find anyhthing in the coding file for the REST feature. It seems like you know quite a few languages including german and you might be able to figure out the acronyms. I wonder what are the choices for it. I am looking for the REST to turn on when the engine turns off...
I tried BMW Coding tool translator but I couldn't find it.

I found that one guy was able to enable this feature on a 2011 335 using "REST_TASTE_VERBAUT" but I couldn't find it in our file.
This might be a feature that comes with the module and REST or MAX/AC...

I am 98% sure thats not in our module. Remember, the E90 has a completely different electrical system from the older 38/39/46/53 etc... cars that share similar bases.

FM, can you elaborateon what you are looking for?

In both of my E53s, the 2002 and 2006 models, I have an A/C button that says "MAX". When engine is running (and other criteria are met), when I push "MAX", I get the full speed fan, with the temp settings and the air circulation set for the maximum performance.

Once the engine is off (and other criteria is met), and I have the car key in my hands, if I press the "MAX" button, I get the residual heater turned on, long enough for a quick errand to a convenience store to pick up a doughnut or whatnot...

The "MAX" button operates identical to what the "REST" button used to do in my E39 - it just bears different name...

Do you wish the "rest" function to activate automatically upon removal of the key from the ignition?

Have you figured out the cold monitoring for the tail lights yet?

cold monitoring is pretty easy, I dont have the exact line in front of me, but its kaltuberring XXX for the correct lights. I just turned all of mine off. I spent 15 years driving without knowing if a light was out. you may have to restart your car to get it to work, It seems to have solved my flicker I had last night with my new angel eyes.

Ditto TX5...the MAX button performs the same operation as the old REST button as far as residual heat mode. When BMW changed the IHKA to include the MAX button...all that happened was a maximum cooling program was added to the IHKA....the REST feature wasn't removed...it was just incorporated into the MAX button. :)'

You still have to physically initiate the program...it doesn't start-up on it's own. But once started...the program will turn off after a specified time...or turn off when the ignition is turned past either position 1 or 2...and what ever IHKA setting you had prior...the system reverts back to that setting.

The MAX button will perform the REST(residual heat) program when:

1. ambient temps are below 59 degrees F
2. battery is properly charged
3. engine is at normal operating temp

Yes. Do all of these. I have a feeling we can put in LED tails with all of these options changed. I just need someone to let me borrow their pair of tails to test. The second part of this is cold monitoring. I checked this too, stuck an led bulb in there, and no flicker.

8. LED Tail Light Option - if someone brings me a set of LED tails, I can test this.

--Might also need to disable the following Cold Monitoring off.

Awesome, the second part is what I want to try, pre-facelift so I dont have flickering while running, but strobing at startup from cold monitoring.

Yes, you got it right.

I would like this for two reasons:

I am speculating the idea that the rear of the engine is building up heat after the engine is turned off for short period of time and it causes the rubber o-rings and probably the valley pan to leak over time. I would think this residual heat being released would help. Here is the actual thread on this issue:
