I certainly know the feeling. I have both thrown my hands up from momentary defeat and sighed in relief that is finally over. Ultimately it was the latter.

I didn't read all the threads...I see most related to fuel. If your loosening power also check the exhaust for restrictions. When a cat converter goes bad it will do the same your describing when it heats up.
Easy way to tell is look under the car when it losses power and make sure the cat is now glowing red. Put your hand over the exhaust pipes with the car running...it should blow your hand off. If you can cover the exhaust pipe and your hand does not move it's usually restricted. I think the BMW procedure was remove the 02 sensor and install a pressure gauge. I think normal back pressure was 7-10 psi...if more the clog was usually the cat. A lot of things can cause this symptom including a mass air flow sensor but you should always check the common stuff first and cats go all the time. If your car has been in an accident or flood it can be anything. |
