They are probably about the same size actually (most of the airflow goes through the openings at the front of the sidepods) and the airflow through them is greater due to the speeds, plus F1 cars don't spend loads of time sitting in traffic.

April? X5 ///M is coming in fall of this year. Maybe April is for Australia.
Sooner = looking at its FEP looks, it may be coming in spring 2010 as 2011 model which is the model year of facelift anyway.
As rh71 said, the new TT engines need those vents.

Ok, so are we saying based on the latest pics, that the new facelift and possible TT might not be until Spring 2010 ?

From Carscoop:
As well as preparing the first-ever "M" version of the X5 that is due to be officially revealed towards the end of the week, BMW is also tweaking the rest of the range of its crossover model. If you're finding it hard to spot the cosmetic changes in our latest spy photos, we don't blame you as on the outside they are limited to the newly styled front and rear bumpers, the repositioned fog lights plus a different alloy wheel or two - or four if you want to take it literally.

Our Bavarian sources also told us that the 2010 X5 will also benefit from a few minor interior updates including the new trim, some ergonomic optimizations and the addition of some toys to the standard and options list.

In terms of mechanical revisions, it is said that BMW will add to the X5's range the latest version of its 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine that develops 326HP in the 740i (up from 306HP in the 335i and the X6 xDrive35i).

Testing how to burn more gas with fuel tank open. :)

Wouldn't be surprised if those toys are just things that the USA doesn't get yet, but have been standard on Euro cars for the past 3 years.

Upped to 326hp eh? That's probably gonna piss some recent X6 35i owners off...

Wonder what the torque numbers will be like as that's really where the 6cyl is currently lacking.

But no mention of the TT V8 just the 6 cyclinder ? I can't imagine they would still keep the current V8 they have to phase it out to put in the TT--that would make so much sense.

Blink and you might miss it! This is BMW's facelifted X5 – but the changes are so small, you'd be hard pressed to spot them. However, with new front and rear bumpers, tweaked lights and trim updates the new SUV will be usefully sharper looking when it goes on sale early next year.

Inside, the cabin will be revised with an increased emphasis on material quality while under the bonnet the engine range is likely to stay the same. BMW will soon be introducing a range-topping M version of the X5 and the X6, which are both likely to get an all-new twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8.

^ they were supposed to have white angel eyes too... or is it amber because the HIDs are on?
