It looks like the M-Sport front & rear bumbers!

Why do they have to drive about testing new bumpers? doesn't make sense to me. Is it just to tease us or are they testing new technology?:dunno:

A better question is why a facelift only involves new bumpers?

Airflow and engine temp.

They had issues with the twin turbo in the 3-series, they probably don't want to repeat the mistake on the X5.

Inside, the cabin will be revised with an increased emphasis on material quality while under the bonnet the engine range is likely to stay the same. BMW will soon be introducing a range-topping M version of the X5 and the X6, which are both likely to get an all-new twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8.

Any guesses on what the new 20" wheel will go on the 2010 4.8 (or TT)sport package ? The initial e53 4.4 sport package had Y-spoke and then they went to a 5 spoke in '04. Since the current is a Y-spoke I bet they go to the 5 spoke that the X6 5.0 has right now. :dunno:

Guys, maybe I am remarking the obvious and/or this has already been mentioned elsewhere but the new X5M shows relatively little update from an appearance point of view (bumpers, lights?, iDrive) compared to the current generation E70.

I do assume BMW would NOT introduce a new top-of-the-line model 1 year before an expected facelift that looks outdated after that facelift.

My point: a facelifted E70 will have at most slightly different bumpers + lights but will not look much different from the current generation E70.

BMW wants the X5M fascia to be different from current E70 X5, like they do with other ///M cars. I agree its minor change to bumpers and light graphics like they did with E60 facelift. The big change is on the interior and under the hood. BMW is working towards having entire fleet with TT engines. So all non-TT engines will be gone sooner than later.

I am curious: when you say the big change is to the interior, what next to the following is expected to change?

- iDrive
- paddle shifters

As a current E70 (4.8i + aerokit + 21" 214) owner I am happy that any facelift is minor so my car does not look outdated after the facelift.

And frankly, I have not warmed up yet to the new X5 M bumpers + painted fender flares. Reminds me a bit of a 5-year old X5 or X3. I think the current E70 styling + aerokit looks better/meaner...

^ Herr that looks like a nice ride - did you ever post pics for it?

I also agree on the look. The facelift so far hasn't been much of anything and the large intakes are actually a step back (though necessary) in my opinion. There have been many vehicles that take a huge step back in terms of looks for the next generation (the Lexus RX jumps to mind). I'm also VERY satisfied with the E70's looks w/ aerokit as is. I think it'll be tough to top when it's time for an overhaul in... what 2014?

Herr Bauhaus 04-07-2009 02:20 PM

Here are two older photos, before I had the front side windows tinted to match the rear side windows. Sorry for the crap quality...

It is essentially the same config (sapphire black, aero, ferric gray 214's) as other members in this forum. It is full option except 3rd row seat and satellite radio and has a hardwired Escort 9500ix. I am pretty happy with it except for some jerkiness of the 6-AT and interior rattles.
