I cant believe how much I actually love the ibus app.

I'm the type that usually leaves the nav going all the time since I like seeing the roads and having the speed showing and speed limit. But I like the ibus app so much its all I run now.

Alright, tried looking for these fuse taps locally with no success, so will have to order from Amazon.

How many will I need for this job?

Also, if I am going to use the fuse box in the glove box for my connection, would I require a USB extension wire for the IBUS USB? Or is there enough space/wire to make it work as is?

Asking because if I have to make an Amazon order, might as well get everything I need!

Oh that reminds me, how is the rear camera install going? I still have to order one for myself as well. How are the trunk latch type cameras?

You just need one fuse tap.

I kept the ibus adapter right under the radio inside the day so All I had to run wire wise was the fuse tap. I think I added a small piece of wire to it. Maybe 1 foot of wire at the most. The adapter doesn't use much power so you can even use speaker wire.

As for the rear camera I put what I used on my install page on my site but I still would like to find something with a wider field of view.

I don't think the trunk latch ones fit. I know the reverse light ones do not fit for sure.

Hi Crowz,

An update, I played with the settings in the IBUS app and added comfort blinking and PDC screen indicator and things continue to run well. Going to take it to the store in a little while and see if it remains stable.

Based on the instructions here

http://download.speedy-pics.de/uploa..._interface.pdf

I'm planning to get all three USB adapter interface wires from my Blue Nav Plug behind the head unit.

Am I missing something by not going to the fuse box and using a tap there?

Just looking for the simplest way to accomplish the install of the USB adapter.

Thanks.

Mike

I went with the fuse box because when I turn the key off I want that sucker OFF.

You know how the old head unit loved to stay quasi on sometimes.

Its up to you and should work fine using the wires in the harness. I just don't trust it completely and want to make sure I never had a weak battery again ever so I hedged my bets with the fuse tap.

Thanks for the background explanation on your choice Crowz.

I've never had an issue with my OE NAV unit misbehaving or battery drain issues, so I'll go with the Blue NAV plug connections.

If I start experiencing issues, I'll know where to start troubleshooting.

Also, my vehicle sits on a battery maintainer during long periods of inactivity. I use one of these maintainers on every vehicle, generator and riding mower that I have and have always gotten great life out of my batteries and never experienced a dead battery issue:

Fairly inexpensive and good insurance when I go into the northern deep freeze temps.

Hi Crowz,

The hard wiring of the IBUS USB adapter is completed and running App software version 1.5.4

A few quirks in this version, like:

1. OBC screen shows consumption units are in L/100km but values are actually MPG. MPG shows in instrument display

2. OBC screen shows values in ºF. Instrument panel shows same values but has units of ºC

3. The reset buttons in the OBC screen sit over text and the mileage at the bottom of the OBC screen is a smaller font and lays on top of Average Speed text

Other than those few imperfections, I love it. Just too terrified to try the upgrade to 1.5.5.2 that it keeps prompting me to take , which was a disaster for me (kept crashing every time I tried to enter "Settings" and wiped out prior coding refinements.

Someone let me know if you are successful with 1.5.5.2 or a later/newer version.

Thanks!

Mike

I doubt I will upgrade. My version is even older than yours for the app but the screen isn't jumbled like yours. But that may not be the version as much as the resolution of the screen. I think my seicane runs at a higher screen rez so more room for it to do the text.

That could explain it Crowz.

I'll check my display settings and see if I have any flexibility.

Thanks again.

I was in the garage yesterday and remembered the CD player I thought I had trashed was in the tool chest that I keep BMW parts. So I can wire either with the CD player as Seicane suggests or can try the IBUS workaround as it arrived yesterday. Your thoughts?
