This stuff works wonders on faded/dead black trim. The side mirrors on my old Volvo 240 had turned dead gray and this stuff made them black again.

But the stink is terrific. I had to wear a respirator while applying it. Gonna do the X5 this weekend along with a windshield repair.

What kind of leads or probes do you guys use for your multimeters?

It seems like most of the connectors on my E53 are too small and too tight to get a multimeter lead into. I have a Fluke 77 (basically the industry standard digital multimeter) and I can rarely get it poked into the back of a connector, and the front is always too tight.

I am trying to troubleshoot my damn keyless entry and can't even see if I have 12 volts on the FZV module because the connector is so small.

The electronics shop here uses a small guage wire with a female/male pin on either end and alligator clips to hold it.

Theirs is homebrew but maybe it's a copy of some test leads...

I usually use a needle though the jacket or a probe with the built in needle. The tough jackets on many of the bmw wires led me to poking a hole or cutting the insulation off with utility knife then using silicone or liquid tape to patch

Some needles are a bit too thick for BMW female pins and they can loosen internally after sticking the needle in. You could also use suitable male pins with wire from some old wiring harness or buy the pins or ready pins with wire.

Thanks guys - I use a multimeter on a regular basis at work, but I don't work in an automotive setting. I had no idea there were a bunch of products designed specifically for this! Just ordered a set of "back probe" leads for my DMM.

Third weekend of attempting to replace door carrier. Here's all the crap I broke and still haven't successfully replaced it.

No matter what I do I am unable to align the new carrier so that I can screw the Allen bolt into the lock cylinder unit, the holes just won't align. And it's that Allen bolt that can easily fall into the abyss, so have to pay super-duper attention to it.

Now presenting...my incompetence:
