I carried it 11 years in case I got stopped so I could show that I was about to install it.
no front plate in PA... when car was in Costa Rica, they required two plates... I carried the front plate with me for couple years, never installed it, and everytime the cops pulled me for not having it, i told them that i am waiting for special bracket coming from Germany... Pura Vida!!!.. lol... got away with not having it at all... when the car got to Russia, i could not get away without the front plate, so i had the europlate installed... when the car came back to the US, i drove with temporary transit russian plates in the US for about a month, it was cool... finally i put on the regular PA plate on the back... many countries require two plates, some places even have different designs and/or sizes for the front and the back... in some places you can get away with ignoring the local laws, in some places - no way!!! i could do that in Costa Rica, the cops there are a joke... would never try it with military cops in Panama, unless i was ready to get shot... lol...

glad it was that easy. Incase someone else see's this, another thing you can do is clean the ambient temp sensor on the IHKA front plate. (The three slats). If you smoke or are just dirty, the fan and sensor will get gummed up and it can a) make noise and b) cause the HVAC to not work properly. Its farily easy to take apart once you get the IHKA module out. I cleaned mine with MAF cleaner (same concept).

On Monday I decided to tackle the pixels in my cluster! I put in a new cable from Pixelfix.net it looks great but that is something I'm not sure I would like to do again! There were a couple moments whenI thought I had gotten in a little deep! So far out of all my X5 projects this was the most difficult. still doable however!!!

You're a braver man than I am. At 45 bucks for the ribbon shipped, I spent the extra 80 and just had an ebay seller do it for me and installed the Titan Silver rings ($130 on ebay)

Lifetime warranty which is good for me, I definitely DO NOT have steady enough hands for this job!

After doing it this time and if I had to do it again I would most likely have it done by one of the lifetime services on eBay as well. I also put the chrome trim rings on at the same time it sure does dress up the gauges!!!

Detailed it, installed smoked taillights, and picked up a beater 318i.
