What did you do to / for your E53 today??

Put my interior back together, after drying out the GALLONS of water beneath the carpet. Gave the carpets a good cleaning while I was at it. Still have an airbag light lit to track down, and I can't find the air duct that goes below the pass. front seat.

It was breezy yesterday, maybe it blew into the yard!

Spent three hours vacuuming broken glass up. Debris flew out of a utility trailer that passed us while we were going 65mph. It hit the driver side mirror and blew in the window glass against the side of my head. There was glass from the dashboard back to the tailgate, all over my wife and I. Luckily, neither one of us was cut and she slept through it to boot! The shards from the mirror glass were so small they imbedded themselves in the seat leather.

Insurance covered everything, but then the steering angle sensor bit the dust while it was at the dealer. I can accept that though at 274,500 miles.

Our 16 year old Bichon died 2 months ago, Wife wanted a new dog. We got a nice Staffordshire/Bulldog who after a few days was getting along great with our 6 year old Shepherd.

We went to my Parents yesterday and as we are not certain of the new dog, left him with our Daughter & took Marley the Shepherd. When we came home all was well but then during my 4th trip bringing everything in from the X they were fighting. She stopped when I told them to & he latched on to her. I was between them & she lunging at him, got me.

Sucks, but I am pretty sure the precipitating event was his boxer breathing issue that on him sounds like an angry growl.

^^Sorry to hear that. We literally just had this happen with a foster my in laws took in. Our American Bulldog (he's 8 now) is very fearful of new dogs and can show aggression towards them, he was attacked multiple times by intact, bigger dogs when he was younger, one of them he did bite back and ended up we paid 50% of the bills for the dog's surgery (bit him in the leg but it was an intact Doberman unsupervised at daycare who mounted Chad and nipped at his ear).

My in laws took in an American/English bulldog mix to foster temporarily while looking for a new home for him about 8 days ago. They have a 5 year Golden Retriever mix who basically goes with the flow for everything, they live approx 5 mins down the road.

The foster was actually impressing me as he was very calm on the walk with our Chad (who was even more impressive, no fear aggression towards him once he "had a purpose" on the walk", never introduce 2 new dogs face to face), and obviously exercise is the first part of balancing your dog. The foster hadn't had much previously, and he was living on a farm alone for first part of his life. With exercise during the week, he was fairly balanced, but obviously any other dog's dynamic can change the situation easily, and at approx 2 years old he is still in his formative years and needing obedience.

We noticed that the foster Bulldog would not be as excited when he got home but does want to play, and play rough with the Golden. He is trying to assert himself as top dog in the pack (which is why he couldn't live with us because Chad does not take well to someone trying to take his position atop the pack, as Chad is the senior dog and alpha male, while I assert myself as pack leader even though he is our only dog), and this morning got a little too rough for comfort with the Golden. My wife is taking him back to boarding now. He will get a home eventually and honestly he is a really good dog, but he needs an active family to drain his excess energy and has a high prey drive so no small animals or cats. And he also needs a committed pack leader to take him and teach him proper obedience.


Sorry about the stitches bro, so your Shepherd bit you? It sounds accidental for sure, but definitely something to figure out. Most aggression problems can be solved with proper balance and exercise and discipline.

At the end of the day these are animals, we try our best to keep them balanced so they do not do things like this, but especially since the dynamic of the pack has changed, so might your Shepherd's anxiety level (most likely her energy level from you being gone all day translated into excitedness which triggered the fight between the 2 dogs). Heal up, and hope all works out in time.

Both dogs are fixed correct?


Tiag I normally agree with you on many things but I wouldn't be shooting my dog in the woods just because I got bit, unless you are Michael Vick.

CRAZY! I hate being near any truck carrying anything that isn't enclosed. Glad nobody was hurt.

Last week I dropped off my X5 and a hatch full of random parts for my indy to install. Motor mounts, front air springs, and they were bringing in a valley pan & gasket, as well as other cooling system parts in case anything else showed signs of needing replaced while they were in there. Should've been a pretty basic thing.

Well, that was Tuesday. It was originally a 'drop it off Tuesday, pick it up Wednesday' schedule.

On Wednesday I went to pick it up and they were behind schedule. The valley pan was done but they were just getting to the motor mounts, hadn't started the air struts. No big deal, I can hop on the bus for another night/morning and pick it up the next day.

On Thursday I got a call that they had decided to drop the subframe to make the motor mounts job easier, but while doing so they cracked the power steering rack. They would replace it at no charge, but would have to wait another day for the part to arrive. I offered to split the cost of the part with them, but they wouldn't let me.

So Friday rolls around and due to weather/air traffic control in Kentucky, nothing got out of town via Fed Ex, meaning my power steering rack wouldn't arrive until Monday. I had no plans to drive anywhere this weekend anyway, so it's really not a big deal.

Well, now this morning I got a call. The part arrived, but Fed Ex damaged it during shipment. He's ordered another part but it won't arrive until Wednesday.

Ugh. Murphy's Law. I guess it could be worse. It's not costing me any more than it was last week.

Nothing special.
Done oil change to Castrol Syntec 0W40 with MANN filter. Replaced engine oil drain plug with new plug as well.

Also replaced all 4 O2 sensors. I must say the best price is from Amazon for about $200 for all 4 Bosch sensors. 2x13477 pre-cat and 2x15109 post-cat.

2 Pre-cat, as easy as doing oil change.
2 Post-cat, I soaked them with PB overnight. One came straight out, but the other wouldn't budge. Torched and soak with PB again for overnight.
Next day, it came out not too difficult.

My next up to do is brake fluid flush.

Adult dogs who attack family members while unprovoked are bad news, this is what I assumed happened. Adult dogs that feel they are "alpha" in a home are "hard wired" for that behavior, this is a situation where an "old dog CAN'T learn the new trick".

People who bring aggressive adult strays and/or abused/neglected dogs into a home have a ticking time bomb.

Agreed on the above except for the last statement. You can bring aggressive adult strays and/or dogs with prior abuse and neglect, BUT you have to have the proper calm assertive energy and dedicate yourself to being pack leader and give 100% commitment to an hour or more of daily exercise a day to "fulfill their needs" and to reinforce positive behavior.

Problem is most people don't do the above, they think they are doing a good thing rescuing a dog who was abused but then they just expect them to be over it and never show negative behavior.

Its a lot more than just giving a dog a home. e30, hope all works out with you and yours. Give it some time and hopefully the pack works itself out. I doubt your Shepherd wanted to injure you, they live in the moment, she is probably sitting on your lap licking you now.
